Guest quote: expanding consciousness

"If you have a golf-ball-sized consciousness, when you read a book, you'll have a golf-ball-sized understanding; when you look out a window, a golf-ball-sized awareness, when you wake up in the morning, a golf-ball-sized wakefulness; and as you go about your day, a golf-ball-sized inner happiness.

But if you can expand that consciousness, make it grow, then when you read about that book, you'll have more understanding; when you look out, more awareness; when you wake up, more wakefulness; as you go about your day, more inner happiness."

  2. I think the ego is a large factor in consciousness.(I know everything is inextricably woven) The ego has a vise grip lock on people. When that loosens, huge changes result in perception, consciousness and every else. We are stepping on our own head and don't see it.

However, ego reduction is like cod liver oil.

    7. Anon 5:46, I could loan you one of mine... but be very careful, jars that size are hard to come by. And you should be warned that YOUR ego might develop some agoraphobia wandering around in my jars.

    20. There are many people that are to put it nicely, complete douchebags, who are nonetheless convinced they are truly brilliant.
There are people that are brilliant, but due to their upbringing or other factors, consider themselves to be garbage.
No matter what the beholders' opinions of them are, their minds are already made up.

    21. my therapist would argue with me on this. He would say k you are right and I am wrong. You are shit. and what do you get out of arguing with me?

i get to be angry about it, I get to blame the authority and say see, this is what was done. I get to shove my wound so far up your ass you don't know how to fix, and what the fuck am I paying for? So you can argue with me like a stranger? Fix me.

And a few times I have met truly wonderful people that were so beaten down by abuse that no matter how hard you try to convince them otherwise, they will always think they are garbage and act accordingly.
It's a terrible waste of potential.

    2. Yes, it's sad.
If they could only look at it as they are not a victim but a good student. (of life) But, perhaps, that realization will come later.

Just as depression can be a good thing to go thru - that dark night of the soul and you evolve into a more awareness of life.

      Delete
    3. Green eyes, I hear you on this. A waste of potential is what I feel/felt a lot. it is someone's hand pressing and squashing my head so I don't grow. it is like if a tree grows and you keep chopping off at the base so it takes time for new roots to grow, and then just when the roots begin to drink and new leaves come, another chop to the trunk happens.

The only way out is to not expect the chop anymore, not to rely that the chop is going to come. The chop happened years ago, the chop is the comfort zone, the chop has no more power.

I don't know how to give this chop no mind, but the answer lies in action, like Medusa says. If I can do actions and not think of the chop I will be better. But I would like it that the chop is not whispering in my ear, threatening me, because it is like constantly trying to break out of my own jail.

    4. you know what it is like to step out of a depression? It is like I died and went to heaven where everything tastes delicious, and all I see is pretty even though it might look ugly to others.

  7. I Never knew the depths of darkness could be so beautiful......so painful......so hot.....so cold. it was everything at the same time of nothing. An amazing "friend" that was in my soul, He knew my thoughts, my passions, my reflection was seen so clearly in him, yet he never existed. He was everything I ever needed while never knowing need. Its a crazy phenomonon to detach from someone who never existed, to finally realize that I fell in love with a mask, a mask that enchanted me and destroyed me.
