Guest song: Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head

As your body floats down Third Street
With the burn-smell factory closing up
Yes it's sad to say you will romanticize
All the things you've known before
It was not not not so great
It was not not not so great
And as you take a bath in that beaten path
There's a pounding at the door
Well It's a mighty zombie talking of some love and posterity
He says "The good old days never say good-bye
If you keep this in your mind:
You need some lo-lo-loving arms
You need some lo-lo-loving arms"
And as you fall from grace the only words you say are

Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head

Ads up in the subway are the work of someone
Trying to please their boss
And though the guy's a pig we all know what he wants
Is just to please somebody else
If the pu-pu-puppet head
Was only bu-bu-busted in
It would be a better thing for everyone involved
And we wouldn't have to cry

Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head

Memo to myself, do the dumb things I gotta do
Touch the puppet head

Quit my job down at the car wash
Didn't have to write no-one a good-bye note
That said, "The check's in the mail, and
I'll see you in church, and don't you ever change"
If the pu-pu-puppet head
Was only bu-bu-busted in
I'll see you after school

Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head

Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head

    11. Dr. Robert Hare states that sociopaths display the “inability to construct a mental and emotional “facsimile” of another person..“ This explains the excessive use of labels.. the only means you have of distinguishing one person from another is through the use of such didactic categorization. Okay. I see why you do it now.

    12. Where in anything I've posted have you seen me put anyone in a moral category. Your just trying to talk your way out of a problem that you would have found was non existent if you scrolled down to the bottom of your own fucking thread...bitch maybe if you stopped over analyzing people and trying to fit them in a nice little boxes that are easy for you to understand and can fit in your own little moral compass and maybe, just maybe, tried to deal with the things that are clearly in front of you wouldn't find yourself looking stupid as often. </3

  4. "Be wary of taking advice from a self-avowed sadist who gets his kicks from watching others ruin their lives, and assisting the process"

You can smell sadism. There is a desperation, a drive. Even a sociopath can be a "victim" to a sadist. In the end, socio is not a good enough masochist. Even Haven says she will not be controlled. Sadist can become frustrated and walk away even with the borderline personality.

-not that socio is not "sadistic".

    1. I think Ell once mentioned BPD being a much more dangerous creature. Is this why?

    2. Do you think me borderline.. or just sadistic. Please explain you point of view M.E.

      Delete
    3. I would have thought BPD's have the potential to be more dangerous as a result of having much more extreme mood swings, which increase the unpredictability of their actions. I.e. you could say, hurt a BPD unintentionally and they'll explode, any means of trying to explain the incident to them would most likely be folly

      Delete
    4. My sister-in-law with BPD is so emotionally volatile that I cannot spend 5 minutes in the same room as her without her feeling that I am attacking her- but most of the time I don't even know what the problem is, or how on earth I have managed to make her feel so inadequate! Invariably, she freaks out over something I say, cries, and apologizes much later, from a safe distance. Then she bemoans how abandoned she feels by her family, because we don't pay enough attention to her. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Yet she is drawn to me like a moth to a flame.
I don't even think about our interactions, but she spends weeks trying to uncover the hidden meaning undergirding every last nuance of our conversations. She has thing love-hate thing going on with me, and it is tied to so many complex emotions that I do not even want to begin attempting to untangle that mess.

I'm glad I don't have BPD. Her life is out of control on account of her emotional lability, but she is more a danger to herself than anyone else.

    6. My sis-in-law is fine until she has one of her meltdowns. It doesn't matter who or what "triggered" it (and we've ALL managed to trigger them)- when she implodes, it is *always* all about her. That's the nature of her borderline beast.

Stop talking shit. You're projecting like a madwoman, and you're not even making sense anymore.

    7. It doesn't matter who or what "triggered" it (and we've ALL managed to trigger them)- when she implodes, it is *always* all about her.

Maybe because all of the rest of the time it's all about you.

Shit ain't black and white, BPD or no.

    8. Does she actually have an official diagnosis?

    9. Medusa sounds far from mad. In fact, she sounds like a highly intelligent woman.

      Delete
    10. Medusa is an intelligent woman, but in this case, I believe she is projecting upon me attributes which define someone else she knows.

Yes, she has an official diagnosis. She had a drug problem and was diagnosed in treatment.

Being self-aware hasn't really helped her. The last time she imploded, it was because I asked her if she was working. She said "no, not yet", and in an effort to be encouraging, I replied.. "Well, on the plus side, at least you have the opportunity to stay home with your baby!". She freaked out because, unbeknownst to me, she puts her child in daycare all day anyway.

Was that an insensitive assumption to make on my part? Perhaps. But I hardly think it warranted the ensuing outburst, in which she berated me for "having it so easy" because I have a husband and a lovely home.

She does this repeatedly. I have learned to diffuse her outbursts by ignoring the subsequent emotional meltdowns rather than battling it out with her. And believe me, it is hard for me to bite my tongue, but I am learning to do so in order to keep the peace within our family. Unfortunately, she does not possess the capacity to regulate herself emotionally to reciprocate.

What she neglects to consider is that we worked hard to get where we are now. We started out in a tiny apartment in a neighborhood known as "Little Jamaica" with only a poker table and ripped up futon to our names. I didn't always have it easy, and she knows it.

I would be interested in discussing this, but not if you just want to turn it into a sparring match, Medusa. I'm not in the mood. I'm going through some stuff at the moment.

    11. In my experience with difficult people, you have to disengage. There is no reasoning with them. It is, virtually, impossible, as you seem to have discovered.

With certain people, they have a defined end game. It may be that they want to feel superior to you. It may be that they want power of you. It may be to humiliate you.
The last thing that it is is the issue, at hand. This took me many, many screw ups to learn and I have not learned it perfectly. You never do.

      Do you?

And your sister, when did she start doing drugs? What was going on then? And I'm wondering how someone can get anything near an accurate diagnosis for someone going through withdrawal, and an addict at that.

    13. I m glad I m not like those bpd women. I do not think I was ever like that. I hear these stories and when I read Haven's blog , she doesn't seem like that either. It must be that all pd are on a spectrum. I am very glad and lucky I have a combination of retardation tolerable to friends and family, that I do not impose.

      Delete
    16. those are not things that affect others around her. Paranoia can be hidden and not discussed with others. Eating does not affect others. Moods can be had in private.

      Delete
    17. why do you think those things don't effect others?

      Delete
    18. I'm sure they do. I guess self-generated things like depression will make another oerson feel like they cannot say what is on their mind. I guess an eating disorder might make a partner hide the donuts, and get major shit for keeping them out on the counter when they should be hidden in a very good place, and I guess that kind of crazy is difficult. It still does not feel unreasonable, as the depression and eating and mood is not to DO with the other person. When with a person who has these problems, it is the other person's responsibility to not get absorbed. It is not your fucking business why I am depressed, it does not make sense to me, and you cannot change me any more than I can change myself. If you chose to be with me, choose to NOT be affected by my fucking shit. Or don't stay. Or just stay and not ask questions which make feel more damaged.

    22. It is my sister-in-law (not my sister) who was diagnosed with BPD, and I have no idea when she began taking drugs. She is constantly availing herself of social assistance programs, whereas my husband and I frequently counseled her to avoid them. I am sure there are times we were insensitive towards her.

She has always gone out of her way to make me feel "included" in the family, but via statements so overly emotional that they lack sincerity. At any rate, I don't require all the excessive reassurance- in fact, I find it rather annoying, because I feel fake attempting to reciprocate, as that is what's expected. I guess she projects this because she feels a need for more of it.

As for emotional regulation, my own issues are primarily related to anger, and trend toward excessive harshness, undue severity, bluntness, and perhaps a tendency to be judgmental and arrogant. I see how that could rub someone prone to periodic abandonment crises, dramatic crying outbursts, stress related meltdowns, and general moodiness the wrong way. We don't relate well.

She is insecure, and I suspect the success of her older brother makes her feel inadequate. I believe she resents my husband... and perhaps there are good reasons for it. There are some deep issues at play between them that I will not discuss here, out of respect for my husband's privacy.

    23. Anon 10:55, you wrote:

"Or just stay and not ask questions which make feel more damaged."

Are you bpd? Because I have heard this kind of thing many times from my sis-in-law.

How are we supposed to know what makes you feel damaged? You don't even understand your own moods and triggers! You guys are an emotional minefield. Anywhere one steps, anything one says might bring a world of shit onto one's head, because you take everything so *personally*! It can be irritating, especially for people who like to speak their mind bluntly.

All that said, I am only speaking from my own experience. I don't know if what I described is a common bpd issue, or just my sister-in-law's personality. It's hard for me to say, as I don't know any other beepers.

      Delete
    24. ALterego, I believe I am bpd, yes. I speak my mind, too. I get into lots of trouble doing so. I also think people are way too sensitive. My problem is I also think I am too sensitive. I tell myself what I tell others in my head to do, which is that they should just be like me and stop being sensitive.

I have trained myself to think my sensitivity is bad. People have no idea that I interact, go out, have a seemingly good time, act cool and poker face, then go home and tear myself up. I am very secretive about my bpd. I do not have severe obvious kind that others can see on the outside.

Only those who know me well know I have self worth problems so bad. If I tell another, they look very astonished and try to argue with me why I should not. "Look at you, you have this and that, you are this and that, everyone loves you, can't you see that." So I go into hiding even deeper because why should I say anything when my mask is the thing that got me in my position, whatever that may be.

What I have learned in life is that when people see you behave without confidence, they lose confidence in you. I have people who rely on me to be strong in a stressful job, I attract very strong personalities, and I like strong partners. So my sensitivities/triggers are not to wear convenient or wise to wear on my sleeve.

You are right, definitely, that I have put off looking at triggers long enough. I'm more self aware than I used to be, and much more outspoken about what I need from people now. Now that I have a little more handle, I can express anger so it comes out logical AND I understand my emotion. This is very different than stuffing anger down and being passive aggressive or sarcastic and biting when I don't know why. I am better manipulator too, which is a plus, but sometimes what I am calling "manipulative" is just getting what I want.

If I was your sister in law I'd have figured out how you like to be spoken to. I tailor my personality to how another likes it.

I beg your pardon, I vent here. Forgive me if my opinions are personal nature. I like scientific facts, too.

Also I didn't realize sw was a place people were not self involved. Thanks for the heads up.

    4. Monica, in religious sects, people have innumerable reasons to repress their evil selves, so you get an exponential number of childish people who cannot and refuse to grow past the pain they don't want to feel. Their religion perpetuates their beliefs that its OK not to grow, so they're all just psychos pretending they're OK instead of facing how they are not. And as you say, then they're back stabbers, but they have the justifications of righteousness behind their stabbings, so there comes an empowerment with a sort of martyrial series of actions. All it really is is pride, judgement, and arrogance that they're right, you're wrong, and you deserve what they must do to you. That's what people are who try to be perfect. They aren't any better than anyone else, they're just vindicated.

      Delete
    5. How do you know it's not just that they don't like you, Monica?

    6. That's OK, Monica. You will, for a little while. Start to push yourself to act on your urges. I know it sounds crazy, but maybe sank it up for a while. Experiment. Fantasize. Embrace your inner human. You can't be the angel you want to be, so be a person... an animal. Let go, and act like other humans.

    7. YES, totally. It is the trying to be perfect. Thanks, Kany. I have heard your explanation a million times, but maybe it will stick this time. I hope so ~

      Delete
    8. Yes, some people don't like me, but the larger point is that everyone has the worst of parts of human nature, inside them, including me. Accepting that part of my own human nature is so hard. I am afraid of it. I can't seem to let my own evil and selfish impulses just pass by, in my head, without thinking they make me into a despicable and deformed person.

      Delete
    9. Perhaps you trying to be perfect makes people not like you. Such is the paradox. Thinking you're an asshole turns you into an asshole. Not you, particularly, just in general.

It's fine to have asshole thoughts; it's only actions that really matter.
