Sociopaths in the news: lawyers

Effects of alcohol on a budding, Obama-esque young sociopath, soon-to-be lawyer:
A promising Harvard Law School standout told cops during a bizarre drunken tirade that he would “lie and cheat” to ruin them if - as a future attorney - he ever calls them to a witness stand, police said.

“A statement like that really has no place in the practice of law,” said Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley, who took Charles Claudio Simpkins on last fall as an intern and will now prosecute him on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

A police report states that Simpkins, 24, made the threat early Saturday morning, just four months from graduation, as he spilled out of a Theater District bar and into the back of a Boston police cruiser, barking to officers, “Give me a (expletive) ride, I work for the district attorney’s office.”

A proud conservative, Simpkins seemed destined for a future of unlimited potential.

A graduate of City College of New York, where he majored in philosophy and political science, Simpkins was in 2005 named a Harry S. Truman Scholar for his devotion to public service. He has studied abroad and appeared on several major networks, as well as on YouTube.com, discussing politics.

In a post in September, one political blogger said Simpkins “is what Obama could have been.”

A former CCNY classmate gushed online, “Like Barack, Claudio is also . . . politically active, handsome, and has more honors than I can count.”

But any White House dreams may now be in jeopardy.

  1. I have been off and on with a sociopath for over a year. I have seen him do and say despicable things and much of it under the guise of religion. He draws females in with his "knowledge" gets them to trust him and then he plays mind games over and over. Making them think he loves them and then enjoying the turndown. He is extremely charming until you get to know him. He even told me that I wouldn't like him once I got to know him well. We were warned that he finds young girls attractive and will do whatever he can to get close and if he's confronted, he denies. He will never answer a personal question and he wouldn't even respond to a blog because he doesn't care that much. If I'm in his sight, I'm in his mind, otherwise he doesn't care. He has a daughter that he seems to be extremely fond of (and love?) but like every other relationship he has with anyone there is always a HUGE level of unhealthiness to it. Like kissy kissy and huggy to a sickening level that it looks like a put on. He talks about how he wishes his ex wife and her husband would die like he's saying he's taking out the garbage. He does contracting work, but he never finishes the job so he has a horrible reputation and has been sued numerous times. He works under the table, has no driver's license and no registration for his vehicle. None of it affects him a bit, he just goes on, smiles to your face while he's plotting his next move. Sex to him involves nothing more than body parts and he has a big hang up about it too. He always says he wakes up every day with this "thing" that no one understands. I think fear and anger are the only two real emotions they can express.

  2. Sounds to me like you've got it figured out.

It would be a good move to be far more off than on with this guy. The despicable things he says and does will continue. A sociopath can't change. Just as you described.. they never let anyone get too close. Intimacy doesn't exist in their world. They will never even get to know themselves because that would be too scary. They are users, takers, and often flat out abusers!!! Run Run RUN and don't look back.

  3. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and
said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear."
She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!

  7. How do sociopaths behave when drunk?
To an extent everyone wears a mask right? Non-sociopaths might do it to fit in to an extent too, but not to manipulate. They would generally do it to keep their feelings and emotions to themselves to either not intrude on someone else's space or to not feel vulnerable.
But when they get drunk, they let go of this "mask" and often times they freely talk about how they really feel.
How do sociopaths behave? They're always wearing a mask aren't they?
