  3. hes obviously sad. pissed off would involve more in the eyes and frowning.

MEs on holiday i think. give him a break

    Did he kill the cat?

  5. It's not that obvious to me. He doesn't look that sad. More... bewildered? Or a fake pout? I can't tell... he certainly doesn't look rueful.

ME, you could have at least added a clever quip or something for this post. Otherwise, post a LOLcat next time. It would be more entertaining than this...

    ReplyDelete
  6. nah it's almost definately just sad. trust me i'm very good with facial/emotional recognition...
it's a photo so it could be a 'fake pout' but it resembles the real thing enough to tell what he's feeling.
    (or meant to be feeling)
i could always be wrong but i'm saying that

  7. Ok.

I'm not great at face reading. Grew up in a culture where you didn't look other people in the eye when you talked, unless you wanted to get bloody. Pretty good handle on other body language and tone, though.

    ReplyDelete
  8. lol i thought you might argue it to the hilt. I don't know for sure, there's no proof, but I know i'm good with subtleties.

actually i wanted to post a link to a facial recognition test to see how you guys would do with it.
    do you want me to?
and do you like my kitty-kat? :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. yes, I would like the test link please.

That face is more 'oops' and 'what punishment may come I deserve now' as in slight sadness for what will come for him next. Of course he'll get away with it and may even learn to make himself look as the hero who was trying to save the cat.

This woman I know killed a cat by throwing him at the wall and then upon seeing other people's reactions to the cat (people had no idea how the cat had died) she realized taking care of cats was a quick and cheap way of appearing like a hero. She still has a lot of cats in her backyard).

    PLAYFUL QUESTIONS TO PONDER . . .

If this were your child how would you respond?

How would you mold this new life?

What wisdom, training or guidance would you want to give this child?

And if this child asks you "what is death?" How would you respond?

  19. PLAYFUL QUESTIONS TO PONDER . . .

If this were your child how would you respond?
    Me: What's wrong?
    Child: Nothing...
    Me: Good.

How would you mold this new life?
I wouldn't, I don't like the kid. He looks annoying as shit.

What wisdom, training or guidance would you want to give this child?
What's good for me is good for you, so if you know what's good for you, you'll do what's good for me. First thing, wipe that look off your face. I don't know what the fuck your problem is, and I don't care. But I do know that everyone else will get pissed at me because you're unhappy, which brings me to my next point... what's bad for me is VERY bad for you. Do you understand?

And if this child asks you "what is death?" How would you respond?
Death is when the universe, and everything in it, disappears. Everything that ever was, is, or will be, will be gone when you die. Including you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yeah. it's a good test.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let me see your results.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It tells me that I'm not conscientious but I largely am driven towards success, but i have a hard time actually aquiring the power in the long run, i guess i don't give a fuck if i get it or not, oh the joys of having no conscience :)

  28. nah, as purveyor of the test, i'll wait for everyone else first.

not sure why i come across as anxious, seeing as in questions such as "I get easily anxious" i put "strongly disagree"

You correctly identified 25 out of 36 emotions. Based on the results we have so far, the average person who takes this test is able to identify 26 out of 36 emotions. Your percentile score was 40, meaning you scored higher than 40% of people who took this test.

hmmm i was watching tv at the time too, lol

You correctly identified 65 out of 72 faces. Based on the results we have so far, the average person who takes this test is able to identify 57 out of 72 faces. Your percentile score was 84, meaning you scored higher than 84% of people who took this test.

i think socio types are meant to think they do well on this, but actually do worse than average. i indeed am a special snowflake :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. oh no wait i got those the wrong way round - they reported the recognising emotions result before the recognising faces result whereas it was tested the other way round.

    my comment
i think socio types are meant to think they do well on this, but actually do worse than average. i indeed am a special snowflake :) was about the emotional recognition.

  33. Psychopaths don't have trouble reading emotions in the eyes

    http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/research/pubs/blair06.pdf

    ReplyDelete
  34. Res. How do you fancy yourself as a sociopath if you are conscientious?

"To be conscientious is to be fully aware of your impact, on your environment and on people round you."

    ReplyDelete
  35. do you read papers or just the abstract?

    "The data has been inconsistent...
"The Eyes Test is also interesting because of its known anatomical correlates. Thus, a recent functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging study showed that presentation of the task produced increased activation in several areas, including the dorsolateral prefrontal and the left medial frontal cortices, the superior temporal gyrus, and the left amygdala. The finding of amygdala activation is of particular interest given the extensive literature suggesting amygdala dysfunction in psychopathy. Thus, if the Eyes Test requires the involvement of the amygdala, and psychopathy reflects amygdala dysfunction, it should be predicted that individuals with psychopathy will perform poorly on the Eyes
    Test."

i read (and have written) scientific papers, and these authors are covering their asses to some extent because they think their findings in this experiment may be contradicted by a future one. in other words the jury is still out on whether socios do better/worse on the eyes test.

    ReplyDelete
  36. adam - i don't think you'll find me anywhere claiming to be a sociopath. i would only ever say that i can identify strongly with many socio traits.
see here if you want my self analysis.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You love the truth dont you? I think you have aspergers.

    ReplyDelete
  38. it's something i've considered...
but like i say in that self-analysis, i'm not easily put into any box - and although i'm a little aspie it really is only a little. aspies would probably get closer to 30% right on "the eyes" test. i got 70%.

You correctly identified 24 out of 36 emotions. Based on the results we have so far, the average person who takes this test is able to identify 26 out of 36 emotions. Your percentile score was 30, meaning you scored higher than 30% of people who took this test.
    Cambridge Face Memory Test II

You correctly identified 68 out of 72 faces. Based on the results we have so far, the average person who takes this test is able to identify 57 out of 72 faces. Your percentile score was 91, meaning you scored higher than 91% of people who took this test.

what do you think that means?

    ReplyDelete
  42. anon, it is if it is an isolated act. if it encourages others to post, and you may learn about yourself from what they post, then it is not pointless.
anyway - if you are a psychopath and you don't care what anyone thinks of you and are bored enough to do the test then why not post the result? are you insecure about who you are and who others here think you are? i take my mask off here, i am not competing for any biggest psycho prize.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I quit during the face memory part because it was taking to long.

    ReplyDelete
  44. JB, it means you're probably better at identifying people's faces than emotional subtleties on their faces.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You would have to be disabled not to know what emotions they were showing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. lol. Thats rather obvious, but what dose that mean?

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Adam
You got 29/36, so how disabled (do you mean retarded?) are you?

    ReplyDelete
  48. As it says, i got more than 80% of the partakers, i got a good score.

    ReplyDelete
  49. lol. Really Adam. at least I can tell who I'm looking at.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i disagree Adam, some of the eye ones were very tricky.

JB, what do you mean what does it mean? It means what it says, dammit. ;)
ok, it probably means you only pick up what is relevant to you personally - only what you need to use from people to appeal to your own interests. It means you're not great at seeing people's emotions. You're more about reading breadth then depth.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am in general a good people reader.

    ReplyDelete
  52. That would make sense. I remember faces but I can't remember names. I guess in the end people just aren't that important to me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The faces i remembered most were the vulnerable looking guys, the one with the pointy up nose, light eyes and quivering lip, he had victim written all over him.

extraverted, agreeable, open, conscientious, and somewhat anxious.

    Mind in the Eyes Test
You correctly identified 27 out of 36 emotions. Based on the results we have so far, the average person who takes this test is able to identify 26 out of 36 emotions. Your percentile score was 60, meaning you scored higher than 60% of people who took this test.

    Cambridge Face Memory Test II
You correctly identified 70 out of 72 faces. Based on the results we have so far, the average person who takes this test is able to identify 57 out of 72 faces. Your percentile score was 95, meaning you scored higher than 95% of people who took this test.

    ReplyDelete
  55. notme, can we find what those eyes correctly meant?
I'm not happy with my 60% on that one.

and this was really funny today:
If this were your child how would you respond?
    Me: What's wrong?
    Child: Nothing...
    Me: Good.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "The faces i remembered most were the vulnerable looking guys, the one with the pointy up nose, light eyes and quivering lip, he had victim written all over him."

Your trying too hard Adam and it shows

    ReplyDelete
  57. Adam, being conscientious is part of forming impressions.

Res, I was also wondering about that anxious bit since I got it too and answered similarly. Weird.

I'm surprised I did as well as I did for catching the emotions through eyes, but about 1/3rd of them were guesses. As for remembering faces, frankly I'm ticked I missed two.

    ReplyDelete
  58. here, this is the revised version with the correct answers for reading the eyes test:

    ReplyDelete
  59. No, being conscientious is giving a damn.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You just contradicted yourself Adam. When you say that you dont give a damn your implying that you are aware but you still just don't give a shit. Thats what I'm like usually, and thats exactly what I'm we were talking about the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Funny bit
hope no one posts the answers though...!

    My scores.
Face recognition: 68/72. Higher than 91% of people.

Eyes: 33/36. Higher than 96% of people.

I think i underestimated myself a bit and was whacked out when i took it. Maybe i could have done better otherwise.
can't remember what they said on personality, sorry. did it a while ago.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah, I don't wake up every day and choose not to care, it's set in stone.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think the new link was clearer or less intimidating somehow, or maybe it's doing it a second time (but without knowing the answers) I did much better. One or two though definitely was impossible even after knowing the answer.

In both I was reading the eyes as much more positive than what it was, so clearly showing my erring on the trusting side.

I'm a socio magnet, but that's ok, I think socios are really fun (and more worthwhile than not) when kept at a bit of a distance and approached with brain as opposed to heart.

This blog is like a family where I can fight and still come back and interact. Really fun...

    ----------

I have an eidetic memory, so the faces portion was easy. The "Mind in the Eyes", however, I scored higher on than previously thought. I know I'm good at reading faces and body language, but I never thought I learned so much from human eye contact. Good tip I got from my friend in middle school, I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Nooooooooooooooooo! how could you Loki??

    you make kitty-cat sad :(

    ReplyDelete
  101. The picture for the article is also ambiguous. The child shows no actual remorse in his face. His mouth knows what to do because he sees this around him, but he does not have the life experience to complete the face. So, either:

    A) He had no attachment to said animal, or...

    B) He's a budding sociopath.

There's really no way to tell, but here are the facts. His inner eyebrows are not raised to match the curled lower lip. His eyelids do not falter and the muscles around his eyes (upper cheeks) do not change. The boy is not feeling remorse or real sadness in this picture. It is superficial.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Loki, what are you, bloody Rainman?
    you remind me of Holmes...
