Sociopaths in media: Lady Gaga

From a reader (and for the search engines), as reported by Vogue via dlisted.
On how one of her greatest talents is not barfing on stage: "I don't know if you knew this. But the other night, in London, I had food poisoning. I was vomiting backstage during the changes. Nobody knew...I just Jedi mind-tricked my body. [I told myself] 'You will not vomit onstage.'"

On how she molests little monsters every night: "Sometimes, being onstage is like having sex with my fans. They're the only people on the planet who in an instant can make me just lose it."

On how her fans are bad kids, or something: "I see myself in them. I was this really bad, rebellious misfit of a person--I still am--sneaking out, going to clubs, drugs, alcohol, older men, younger men. You imagine it, I did it. I was just a bad kid. And I look at them, and every show there's a little more eyeliner, a little more freedom, and a little more 'I don't give a fuck about the bullies at my school.'"

On how she's full of so much modesty: "Speaking purely from a musical standpoint, I think I am a great performer. I am a talented entertainer. I consider myself to have one of the greatest voices in the industry. I consider myself to be one of the greatest songwriters. I wouldn't say that I am one of the greatest dancers, but I am really quite good at what I do. I think it’s OK to be confident in yourself."

  2. From what she said she sounds more BPD than anything, if she was all like - I punch people out for looking at me wrong, and I run 15 scams, then I'd say sociopath.

  3. I wonder if any serial killers frequent this site, it would be very interesting to speak to one of those.

  4. Anon, you cannot be serious? Serial murderers are incredibly rare out of 300 thousand psychopaths probably one will be a serial murderer, a serial murderer is not just a socio but a whole cluster of different personalities dominantly narcissistic.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The reason why some serial murderers are social recluses growing up (the majority) is because like every narcissist they cannot take criticism, criticism to a narcissist is like soul murder. The successful ones know that they must present a charming facade if they are to be remembered, plus imagine going into a courtroom full of blood hungry relatives, and prosecutors, if you acted sheepish you'd be torn apart, i guess it's common sense.

  6. i worry about you anon, i bet you never read a psychology book in your life yet you think your a professional, you have no clue what you are talking about.

  7. No, not at all. It's really hard to tell if a celeb is a socio anyway, they already hide many facets of their life.

This is just a joke. If I had to name someone who I thought was a sociopath, it would definitely be steve pavlina.

  8. Due for inclusion in DSM-5:

Individuals with an Egotistical Pop Star Disorder show a lack of concern towards the expectation that egos be commensurate with talent and frequently become involved in at least minor violations of disturbing the peace. A popular term for this type of individual is "attention-seeking tit." Although the diagnosis is limited to those persons who are famous, it usually involves a history of tragicomic behaviour before the age of sixteen. The individual often displays a pattern of exhibitionism, nudity, dramatics, social media abuse, running toward paparazzi and may have difficulty with talent show judges. As an adult, the person often performs acts that are against the law of good and/or fails to live up to the hype of personality worship, fashion icon responsibility, or industry puppet responsibilities. They tend to have difficulty sustaining conversation beyond controversial sound bytes and frequently are involved in wardrobe and life malfunctions.

  14. you can tell psychopathic behavior even on this blog .. it does fascinate me to say the least.

The ones who come on here and act like they own the blog strike me the most.

  15. When you socios see others like you that have similar traits do you admire that person? A compassionate person usually values other kind caring individuals, is it safe to say the sociopath admires ruthless individuals?

  16. Yes and no, of course i have respect for others who live according to their own rules, it just makes more sense, morality to me is just an illusion the past is a dream, in a sense neither exist. The bad part of people like that is knowing what they are capable of, i wouldn't tolerate having someone around who opens my fridge without asking me first, i like seeing it being done to others but if they do it to me it's never acceptable.

"She's an ugly cunt and I hate her!"

Wow, I couldn't feel anymore differently than I do. I love her! Well, for as far as I actually know what that means, but you understand.

As for her opinions on herself, I don't quite agree. She doesn't have one the the greatest voices, if that means one of say the 10 greatest voices.
She is certainly not a great songwriter, but she has great ideas and she definitely is one of the greatest entertainers at present.

I've seen this hatred toward her, that she's ugly and monstrous, etc. I don't get it. What's so horrible about her?

Sure she's attention seeking, but that's nothing new in this business. You've got to come up with more than that in my opinion.
There must be something specific about her that so hits and grim nerve with you?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, her music. I hate it and you can't go anywhere without hearing it.

Do any serial killers frequent this site?

    Probably. Why not?

But they're not likely to very open about it considering the authorities frequent the site too.

Most of us here who are open and who participate with comments do so BECAUSE we don't have any illegal activity going. Even so, it's actually not the wisest thing to do. But living in obscurity just because you're you can bring up rebellion in a person. :)

    .....

As for Lady Gaga and Sociopathy? Yes, I think it's likely.
As for Psychopathy that's impossible to tell with her well staged Impression Management. It's also not a label to throw about lightly. - But then, it's not the topic here, for me it's just natural to follow the line of associations.

  31. Ladies and gents FAGOPATH has arrived!!! Do you have a signed lady gaga thong zhawq?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Serial killers are amazing

    ReplyDelete
  33. Misanthrope,

But the same is the case for so many others of the artists that dominate the scene at present. It's been like that for a decade if not more.

There must be something about her specifically that makes your nerve ends twitch.

I mean, for me, I find it annoying to always have some of the HipHop guys in my ears and eyes everywhere I go. - Forgot his name, but there's one particularly ... whereas I can easily see he IS a good dancer, everything else about him makes my stomach coil in 'repulsion' (lack of a better word. I'm in one of those moods where I can't find word for what I want to express).

The guy I'm thinking of obviously is a sociopath, if not a psychopath, but - like I say above - psychopaths and certainly sociopaths are very different between one another.

This guys, f.ex., has been known to beat the living daylights out of his fiance, and you can just see easily in his who attitude and the way his videos are structured that he sees himself as above everybody else, especially his female fans are pictured as submissively and helplessly suckering up to him, seeing only him, whereas he stands there (on a regular pedestal) making gestures within dance moves that obviously suggests he's 'ruling' them.

Damn, what's his name again?!! :)

    .....

    Jason,

okay, you speak about sociopaths, but what do you think about someone like Sam Vaknin?

Also, Anon 4:47 AM is right at least about one serial killer: Narcissism and the reaction to 'criticism' were very obvious in Ted Bundy. But he was a psychopath too in my opinion.

Like human beings they come in many shapes. So it's not to draw any analogies to myself or others.

    .....

    Anon 5:09 AM,

there're some quite peculiar new 'disorders' that may be included in the DSM-V. I came upon another even more curious one yesterday, but of course I can't remember it right now.

If you have more info on this subject, I'd be interested in learning more or get some links you could provide. - Otherwise I intent to list some of the findings I obtain in my research at my blog.

The same goes for others, of course. We might as well share the information that we can, now that we have the same topic of interest (whatever our reasons may be).

  34. "Yeah, her music. I hate it and you can't go anywhere without hearing it."

Is it her music style you don't agree with? Her music is a mixture of rock, dance and disco.

How do you feel about Byonce? (did I spell that right?)

    .....

    Adam,

"Do you have a signed lady gaga thong zhawq?"

Lol, humorous relief, eh? It's cool, pal. But no, I like her tunes generally speaking, and I think the visual side is essential to what she does,

But even when I was younger and had a few musical artists I actually would say I was a 'fan' of (if not to the extent of what is normally meant by the word), I've never felt any draw towards having anything of theirs. Not even a signature ever meant anything to me.

One of my long time acquaintances (or friends, if you will) is a famous writer in Europe. I never asked for his autograph until I realized it was valuable.

    Would you humor me, Adam?
No kidding here, but sometimes I am not fast to understand sarcasm and humor, and I don't understand what you mean by 'FAGOPATH' ... that is, I understand the 'PATH' part, but what's with the 'FAG'? What does that refer to?

    ReplyDelete
  35. She isn't anything spectacular, but I do enjoy the reactions people make to her entertainment style. Lyrically speaking, her music is common; tonality and structure are also common. All in all, nothing special.

The hype she receives from the public is a bit overdone, but I can't blame her for brainwashing a generation with more mainstream.

The real shame is how unappreciated true musicians are. Artists who are truly gifted but tossed aside because the majority doesn't "dig their sound". They don't sell enough to be considered profitable. Speaking on a business stand point, I completely understand why, but it's still a shame.

  45. They say there are 50 active serial killers in the US.

I think there are way more then that. This one was brazen enough to start his own blog. Being an asshole, I will try to send this to the authorities somehow.

  46. Thank you for that link, Jason. It's proof that there are blogs out there with comment sections vastly more dreadful than this, even during the GRK era.

Gaga, a sociopath? What does it matter, in that type of biz, you know? Entertainers are constantly sacrificing their morals and goals for money and fame. If anything, it would be better that she was. Thick skin never hurts to have.

  47. Jason,

you DID read his note at upper right corner on the Home page, yes?

Otherwise, there're lots of clues in the comments section. :)

  48. There are some amusing posts. The fiction reminds me of a book I read recently, a lot. I wonder if it's the same author, as the prose and dialog is quite similar.

  49. Testosterone may influence sociopathic behavior.

Booth's study suggests that if you have high testosterone you may experience frequent episodes of unemployment and troubled relationships, broken marriages and strained relations with your children. You may find it difficult to remain faithful to one person and may suffer from sexually transmitted diseases. Your tendency to gamble and to take risks may result in financial and legal difficulties, and you may fall victim to frequent accidents due to your impulsive, boisterous nature.

This leads me to a question, what would happen if a psychopath took steroids?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Aggressiveness

Aggressiveness is the term used for acting with hostility. Men who have high levels of testosterone usually respond to situations in an overly aggressive manner. They have more of a tendency to get into fights with others. A study conducted in 1999 by Penn State University titled "Testosterone and Men's Health" claims that men with higher testosterone levels would be healthier if they avoided risky behavior.

    Impulsivity

Impulsivity describes a tendency to do things without thinking about them first. Men with high testosterone levels may act without thought of the consequences involved.

    Anger

Uncontrollable anger goes hand in hand with high levels of testosterone. It is harder for men to control their emotions, especially anger, when the hormones are imbalanced.

    Mood Swings

Mood swings are severe ups and downs in mood. A man with high testosterone levels could be happy one minute and depressed or furious the next. There is usually no trigger for these mood swings; however, any emotions displayed will be over-reactive if there is a trigger.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What relevance does Gaga have here? She's so young that she still finds what she did while she was a little younger scandalous. In interviews, she comes across as very fragile and invested in the opinions of others, thin-skinned to the point of pain. And I've heard other performers talk about intense connections with the audience that they describe in similar sexual/sensual terms. None of which remotely resembles the sociopathic style as I know it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Does anyone else suspect M.E. might be a criminal psychologist or profiler? That maybe this website is set up to look for real murderers?

Or perhaps a college professor simply studying what's written here for a paper.
