ENTP = quintessential sociopath?

From a sociopathic-identifying reader:

I have been fully immersed in psychology in the last few years, leading to my exposure to the Meyers Briggs personality indicator, which I feel is relevant to my possible sociopathy due to my strong identification with the ENTP type.

Even on the surface level, ENTPs seem to be the ideal candidate for a sociopath: our zero tolerance policy toward boredom and consequent willingness to go to any lengths for stimulation combined with our ability to turn charm on and off without a second thought is nearly identical to the driving factors that sociopaths seem to have. Personally, I exercise my social manipulation skills (aka "charm") often and with much joy, objectively viewing most people as little more than pieces in a large and exciting game.

Regardless of my psychopathic tendencies as a child, my uncertainty toward my identity is due largely in part to the contrast of stereotypical sociopathy and my ENTP personality. My lack of morality could either be attributed to a mental disorder or the results of inherent indecision and refusal to accept traditional ideals--although many believe INTJs to be the personality most closely linked to sociopathy, I think (possibly from personal bias) ENTPs natural inclination to charm, cajole, and intently seek out to challenge any form of regulation aligns us almost perfectly with the portrait of a sociopath.

My struggle now is mostly originated from the possibilities of either my true nature as a sociopath or of the simple fulfillment and exhibition of qualities blanketed under the ENTP personality type.

  1. I just got bored enough to take the test.
    Apparently I am an ISTP-A.
The description sounded surprisingly accurate. They even got the tomboyish leanings, relentless curiosity and bursts of concentration and energy right.
    Interesting.

    1. It's useful, but not perfect, just like any algorithm that tries to take something as marvelously complex as a human being and boil it down into a label. What you're left with is a component, sure, but most of what you are has evaporated.

I think the goal for any individual serious about introversion is to capture all of those elements, and in understanding them master themselves. Extroverts are exciting, passionate, and fun to be around, but I love well my fellow introverts.

    3. Anon (6:35 AM), Your reply is well-phrased and substantially digested. The complexity of the human brain is difficult to label, and I can understand your point about capturing the elements of introversion and excelling at them. I agree with your whole comment.

    5. I, too, have a complex personality, Anon, and hearing of your epiphany has raised more questions in my mind. If you can add to your present canvas of thoughts, what medium or descriptions would you use to represent and vivify those complexes?

    7. ISTP's and ESTP's strike me as being most likely to be the classic sociopathic personality. Ironically, while they may be destructive on a small scale, they don't strike me as being as dangerous to society as malignant narcissists. Why? Because these two types are very live and let live.

That said- N-J combinations strike me as being the most worrisome when combined with trauma and high intelligence. They are most likely to create a persona that is more consistent with narcissism than anything you'd see from an SP who is more about short term personas to pull off a con job. If you throw extraversion in the mix, you get something even more volatile. People make the mistake of thinking T's are less empathetic than F's- but I'd argue that most borderlines are F's so clearly there needs to be a combination of thinking and feeling for there to be a stable personality.

  3. In the old days psychopaths did not "work on any exams" to be or not to be things, nobody knew to which "subcategory" they did belong. The activity is "in line" with socios inflated sense of importance. As if finding out which level of "nutty" is appropriate is some type of diploma. A rational motive would be to see if they maybe not are psychopaths at all, but unfortunately this is almost never the case.

  4. Absolutely not.
Most sociopaths are ESTP. They are engaged socially. They are interested
in the REAL world, and want to durive as much pleasure as they can from it.
They are cool thinkers, rather then "emotive" feelers. And they crave freedom
    above all else.
As an example of the sociopath's inability to process emotion, I refer you to
    two cases:
During the Scott Peterson trial, films of Laci, the wife he murdered, were shown.
He had a plastic smile on his face, and a teardrop falling from one eye.
Throughout the Casey Anthony trial, she dabbed at her eyes with tissues, and
she ALSO had this same phony smile, when films were shown of her bouncing
her daughter on her knees. The only real tears she cried was when her brother
(Whom she was likely having sex with.) cried for her. When the "grief expert"
testafied, it was back to the eye dabs with the tissues.
Also, when President Clinton, the famous liar and horn dog, was
caught on film exiting his pal Ron Brown's funeral, he was caught on camera,
joking and laughing. The instant he realized he was being filmed he snapped on
    an expression of grief.
These people are wicked. The are dangerous. They are trash. Their only saving
grace is that they are bolstered by the media, which is collectively socopathic,
and some have enough charisma that people want to crawl into bed with them.
Not our future President Hillary through. I wouldn't ______ Hillary if she was the
    last hag.

Well, you'd better hope one of these monsters is working on you should you end up in the hospital, as blubbering upsides like yourself aren't cut out for much more than bawling and shoveling ice cream into your vapid, pudgy faces, choking out indignation between sobs and swallows.

Such aversive behaviors are likely to be found in Introverted Thinkers. IxTx types are the most detached and wary; taken to the extreme, paranoia takes hold of their minds.
    ISTJ, ISTP, INTJ, INTP

Schizoid personality disorder is somewhat similar to the previous one. It entails a lack of willingness to engage in social interaction and emotional expression. Again, sounds like a fitting disorder for an IxTx. They appear indifferent to the outside world. But not only are they indifferent, they are unable to pick up on social cues. ISTxs, who are more observant than their iNtuitive counterparts, are often able to read nonverbal behavior. That leaves the schizoids with INTx. Schizoids resembles those with Asperger’s syndrome, which contains mainly INTxs.
    INTJ, INTP

Next we’ll talk about schizotypical people. There’s only one type in particular that this personality disorder would affect. First of all, they have quite odd behavior, dress, beliefs, and perceptions. Combined with indifference to others, discomfort in close relationships, and stunted emotional expression, we’re already at INTx. J or P? Well, schizotypical people often succumb to magical thinking, and they believe that symbolic messages are hidden just for them. This pattern of thought reflects Introverted iNtuition.
    INTJ

Antisocial personality disorder is the tendency to disregard safety, behave violently, break the law, and violate others’ rights. Antisocial people have a general disregard for others, and they tend to lie and steal. This is clear xSTP behavior.
    ESTP, ISTP

People who have borderline personality disorder are fundamentally different from what we have discussed so far. Instead of withdrawing sharply, they are often overly expressive. They fear being alone (E), have unstable moods and volatile relationships (F), and tend to be risky and impulsive (SP). This would suggest ESFP, but borderline people also exhibit suicidal behavior, an INFP trait. I suppose we can overlook this discrepancy, however, since those who are flawed in such a way may naturally consider suicide.
    ESFP

Histrionic personality disorder is like the one above. People with this disorder are excessively emotional and sensitive to what others say (F), constantly seeking attention (E), and concerned with their physical appearance (S). It follows that a histrionic person is more often than not an ESFx.
    ESFJ, ESFP

Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which one believes that they are superior to everyone else. They fantasize and exaggerate their abilities and self-worth (N), expect constant praise from others (E), and are insensitive to others’ emotions (T). In reality, you’ll probably find that the most arrogant people out there are ENTxs.
    ENTJ, ENTP

Those with avoidant personality disorder are much the opposite of the previous one. Their extreme shyness, timidity, and sensitivity combined with their social isolation and feelings of inadequacy indicates some variation of IxFx.
    ISFJ, ISFP, INFJ, INFP

Next is dependent personality disorder, which, like schizotypical and borderline, mostly affects a single type. People with this condition behave submissively towards others, show a desire to be taken care of, tolerate abusive treatment, and feel the need to start a new relationship when one has ended. This closely resembles the negative part of the ISFJ profile.
    ISFJ

Lastly, we’ll take a look at obsessive compulsive personality disorder. These individuals are overly concerned with rules and orderliness, strive for perfectionism, are highly inflexible, and have a strong desire to be in control of situations. This description just screams xSTJ.

They are BOLD and want to use and disgurd people after they are done with
them. They are not impractible dreamers. They want excitement and MATERIAL

sentimental. They dispose of their offspring like flushing a toilet. And rules are
NOT made for them. They can't keep schedules-FOR LONG.
Doctor's and nurses? They are like Dr. Swango, who murdered dozens on

  11. I honestly don't think the Myers-Briggs Personalities have a significant correlation to sociopathy, or other "disorders", at all. The Myers-Briggs tests I've come across so far solely seem to explore accumulated communicative and interpersonal strategies rather than intrapersonal strategies or the interconnected traits making up the innate personality of an individual and thus invalidating such a personality test as a means to identify neuro-atypical, or "disordered", minds.

FYI, I've tested as INTP mostly, followed by ISTP and every once in a while ENTP. According to Anon@101am's quote I might be an antisocial paranoid shizoid with narcissistic tendencies. LoL (well maybe....)

    1. Okay, I should really come down first before writing a comment after working 5 hours straight on a protocol...

What I wanted to say is: It's total bullshit to think your MBTI type determines whether or not you're predisposed for sociopathy or that you've got to have a certain MBTI type to be one, since all I can see such tests measure is the way you favorably interact with the world around you instead of measuring how your brain works. Just my opinion.

And now I've got to get some fresh air...

    2. You worked five, long hours on a protocol? Did it have to do with determining where you might place within the MBTI labyrinth? I am highly drawn to working within the intricate architecture of a labyrinth, creating and solving its multi-layers toward attaining a workable solution or plausible answer.

The MBTI is not an IQ test, but it unveils some traits that occur at a certain frequency within the inherent construct of a given brain. INTJs share my opinion.

Fresh air should "clarify" some facts or opinions for you, NM.

    4. Hi Smarty, to be precise, I worked 5 "long" hours on correcting the facts my team got wrong in a "protocol" which is nothing like the protocols I'm used to write. The task was to write a complete theoretical study about a SNP we got assigned to (I was first so I could choose, tho I couldn't choose the team that got assigned to me) using a PCR-RFLP-Analysis, Restrictionendonucleasedigest and Gelelectrophoresis so the professor can see whether we actually understood what we were doing in laboratory following the script.

I had to correct the primer design, the cutting sites of the enzyme, the amplicon lenght, pretty much everything I asked them to do. Plus I wrote the design of the study and the whole background information concerning CDH13. Very interesting stuff, but a lot of papers to read to get the a picture of how to design a realistic study.

"Fresh air should "clarify" some facts or opinions for you, NM."
I meant fresh air in a literal sense, I really needed to go outside after spending the day inside. And yes, it did.

"The MBTI is not an IQ test, but it unveils some traits that occur at a certain frequency within the inherent construct of a given brain."
I can't argue with that, however I'd say it describes rather the underlying coping mechanisms of a person's behavior than the person itself. Those, let's call it 'behavioral patterns' for the sake of simplification, can be observed through a questionnaire asking things like "What do you do if", but my point is:
However you describe or name such observed behavioral patterns, they should still not be confused with the underlying condition (be it 'normal', 'disordered' or otherwise 'not normal') which molds those behavioral patterns. They are not the same.

Let me put it into other words: You can have two people answering with the same behavioral pattern in a defined situation, yet have thoroughly different conditions. Clear what I mean? (Abstract concepts make it sometimes hard for me to choose phrases which convey what I want to say.)

Oh I might add I don't think IQ tests measure sufficiently how smart someone is. I don't say this because of my own IQ but rather because of all the stories I've read and heard about IQ tests, and my own experiences exposing rather strange outcomes. I'm happy with not knowing where I'd actually fall, and I'm quite sure the first few times I got tested were almost as wrong as the last time. What's your opinion on IQ tests in general, and where would you have put me on the scale? (Rather to be taken lightly - as a game of some sort. I like to put stuff on scales and compare to how others see it.)
I'd place you rather high up somewhere about 130 to 160 tho I'm not entirely sure. The way you write, and I don't mean the sophisticated words or petty 'mind games' (some are really fun, others are just tedious), but rather the way you construct sentences, is something I don't see often.

"Also, NM, I do not like squandering my energy. It's one of my personality's quirks."
I meant to answer your reply about the renaissance epoch, read it twice, then a third time, but couldn't come up with anything worth to say. I tried to, but it seems my motivation is playing tricks on me. My life is... difficult at the moment. I apologize for the inconvenience.

    5. Well, NM, having analyzed your comment, it looks as though you are heading toward human gene mutation, which is a project that your professor will most likely include in the script preceding laboratory research and engaging discoveries. Human gene mutation will take you into the immersing world of transformations and evolved, distilling techniques. I can see your laboratory hours increasing “considerably.” You will be stepping into a world of new, fresh capabilities.

“I can't argue with that, however I'd say it describes rather the underlying coping mechanisms of a person's behavior than the person itself.”

When one pursues an extensive project as you have done for five, protracted hours, s/he is able to think and behave in ways that qualify outside the “nucleic” personality. I am quite sure that you experienced it first-hand during the explanation of the professor’s script, and then even more so in the transformative laboratory.

IQ-wise, thank you for thinking so highly of me, as well as for speaking so pleasantly about my writing. I am not certain of your exact place on the IQ scale, but just as you have given your opinion of my IQ-spectrum, it would most likely be on a high level.

    7. I'm currently learning the basics, I'm a first-year undergraduate student. There's no way yet to tell whether I end up in the research field of human genetics or anywhere else, however my laboratory hours will definitely increase. I'm looking forward to this and all the possibilities awaiting me.

The professor's script didn't have much information in it other than the very basics of the techniques we used to amplificate samples which were already genotyped preemptively so we students can't mess up the results. We were required to do our own research on how exactly everything works and what the assigned SNP does. If you're interested, it's the rs11694622 variation, which seems to be related to ADHD in adult patients and might be correlated with violent behavior in criminals.

"When one pursues an extensive project as you have done for five, protracted hours, s/he is able to think and behave in ways that qualify outside the “nucleic” personality. I am quite sure that you experienced it first-hand during the explanation of the professor’s script, and then even more so in the transformative laboratory."
I experienced this many times in my life. I tend to concentrate on my favourite projects I work on for an extended period of time in a way which kind of knocks out most of my innate responses and gives me a strangely appealing sense of elation and serenity concurrently.

Regarding the IQ stuff, you really don't have to thank me. I generally don't hand out compliments if I don't mean it, and most is rather to be classified as an observation and not a compliment anyways.
A lot of people have told me I likely have a high intelligence level - and were surprised to hear I had "only" an IQ of 110, as is the result of a test taken a year ago. I'm hesitant to believe the outcome, for once because it would either mean I have a lot more superficial charm than what I thought (why else would people think I'm smarter than they when in fact I'm just different?) or, more disturbingly, I might have been more than just a bit of a narcissist. Well, the other option is that the test didn't work - which is a likable option considering I was quite distracted by the psychologist plus she did upset me before starting the test.

"What is making your life so difficult at the moment?"
A number of problems and circumstances, there's a lot going forward in the past month, a lot has changed and I was able to accomplish two major life goals I tried hard to reach for several years and failed every time in the past (I had almost given up on one of them). It's just a bit too much at once, and I'm not exactly happy about how fast certain things are going, as it causes a bit of stress which then leads to small mistakes in the way I interact with certain people which, more often than not, leads to catastrophes I'm not keen on.

"I am quite used to abstract concepts, and I do well with them. So, even though you might not choose your phrases "perfectly," I will be able to "decipher" your intended essence."
I'm very happy to hear that.

  14. The FNP is a very ISFP sociopath. Creative, adventurous, private, competitive, beautiful, artistic, relaxed, fun-seeking.

Also chatted to a very INTJ sociopath who was a systematic thinker, strategic, articulate, driven to find patterns and conclusions, rigorous.

Their sociopathic characteristics manifested IAW their MBTI type. And I probably glossed over the FNP's warning signs as type differences... eg proneness to boredom, self-centredness, stubbornness. Being an INTJ myself, I was all about trying to make things work using the MBTI lens... eg I encouraged his creativity in trying to solve problems between us (eg his showing up to sex with his imaginary French-speaking friend in lieu of a threesome. It was exciting and sweet and really freaking strange all at once.)

But there came a point when I just thought there must be something not quite right with him. And then it was "stalemate".

INTJs the quintessential sociopath? Perhaps it's that some traits are similar. We're utilitarian in approach and aren't particularly enamoured of society, so are happy to find workarounds. I remember explaining to the FNP that one ought to phrase communications in such a way as to achieve the desired result... my INTJ sociopath friend laughed at this, saying I had totally validated his sociopathic approach to getting what you want while staying inside the rules.

Personally speaking, the strategy involved in relating to a psychopath is extremely fascinating, a pleasure.

  17. How i got my boyfriend back.Am Stacey Bruno by name I never believed in love spells or magic until I met this spell caster once when i went to see my friend in Indian this year on a business summit. I meant a man who's name is Dr ATILA he is really powerful and could help cast spells to bring back one's gone, lost, misbehaving lover and magic money spell or spell for a good job or luck spell .I'm now happy & a living testimony cos the man i had wanted to marry left me 5 weeks before our wedding and my life was upside down cos our relationship has been on for 3years. I really loved him, but his mother was against us and he had no good paying job. So when i met this spell caster, i told him what happened and explained the situation of things to him. At first i was undecided, skeptical and doubtful, but i just gave it a try. And in 7 days when i returned to Canada, my boyfriend (now husband) called me by himself and came to me apologizing that everything had been settled with his mom and family and he got a new job interview so we should get married. I didn't believe it cos the Dr ATILA only asked for my name and my boyfriends name and all i wanted him to do. Well we are happily married now and we are expecting our little kid, and my husband also got the new job and our lives became much better. His email is: atilahealinghome@yahoo.com

I love him so much he was everything to me without him my life is incomplete. So I decided to tell my co-worker and when I told her shell told me that there is a Psychic spell caster named Priest Wise that I should contact him that he can solve my problems. So she gave me his email and his website and I contacted Priest Wise and explained everything that has happen to him.
