A proposition

A reader offers:
I recently became aware of sociopathy and found your blog, which I have enjoyed reading today. It's difficult to find anywhere else online anything written from the point of view of a sociopath, and I've learned some valuable info from the posts and comments.

I have been studying astrology for twenty years and enjoy studying birth charts. If there are any blog followers here who believe they are sociopaths who'd be willing to provide thier birth data, I would like to study their charts to see if there are correlating aspects and placements that form a pattern. I don't think anyone's done this sort of astrological research yet, at least I haven't found any. Would you or your readers be game? If so, what I would need is the date of birth, the exact birth time, and the city in which one was born. Once I have a few charts, I can post the results on your site if you'd like.
One of the reasons that I am religious is that I refuse to accept truth only from state sanctioned sources, so to speak. I think that it is too limiting and that there is a certain amount of hubris in looking for truth only from those sources that you have pre-screened as being legitimate. So I replied:
Ah, very interesting proposition. I would be game, and I wonder if some of my readers would also be interested, in the name of science. I actually don't know exactly what I believe about astrology, though I tend to think it is interesting, accurate, and predictive, but of whether or not stars have any impact on our lives I am less sure. I've often wondered whether certain signs lead more to sociopathy, or whether certain signs lead to higher functioning sociopathy. (For instance, I am Cancer, supposedly a feeler. Does that make me a "softer" sociopath than most?)
Sensitive information like birth dates, times, and locations should not be posted to the internet. So I suggest that you email me if you would like to participate. Feel free to come up with a "fake" email address just for this purpose. I'll pass them along, and we'll make sure that birthdates and locations never get published.

  1. i have always believed that the time of birth, location of planets in the solar system and the tides have something to do with how we are throughout our lives. although i don't consider myself a sociopath, 10/06/1963 4:20 am stillwater, ok

  2. My sociopath boyfriend said his birthday was Nov. 21 but I have no idea where he was born or if that is even true or if he was just selecting a day in the near future to see what I would do for him since we had just started dating.

Do you think sociopaths dislike celebrating their birthdays considering the social aspect involved? I have noticed that sort of tendency, like they don't want the extra attention that a birthday creates.

  3. A great many people have searched for patterns in randomness, finding nothing but madness. Coincidentally, the first of these men was also the first astrologer.

Join with me in prayer to the deity of pseudo-scientific mysticism. Lord Jupiter, please go back in time to when this man was born, and use your mighty gravitational pull to counteract the well-proven effects of genetics, and more pertinent environmental factors, to grant him sanity. Also, please ensure that next Friday is a good time for him to take financial risks. Next month should be good for erotic pursuits. Please, we beg of you, do this for us with the effects of your gravity some several decades ago, and we will be eternally thankful.

    Amen.

Now, dear reader, here's my information:
I was born in the lost city of Atlantis, on February 29th, 1823. I know that might sound crazy, but do try to keep an open mind!

  4. So Peter, you were a leap year baby huh?

  5. Birth time? That would require my mother to pull the stick out of her ass and the dust out of her ears long enough to have a rational conversation. Never gonna happen.

  6. CC...

You could just look on your birth certificate, I'm pretty sure it has that information on it.

  7. Nope, it's a duplicate. So no detailed info on there, just name, date, hospital, and parents. Oh well I'm not too much into astrology anyway ;)

  8. You mean we don't have a February 29th every year? Oh my, that certainly muddles things up a bit, doesn't it?

I have a lot of respect for astrologers.
I can't imagine it would be easy to calculate the positions of the planets to a degree accurate enough to render my birthplace and time significant down to the minute, especially considering our calendar is so fubarred that we have to add an extra day to prevent the months from drifting between the seasons. Things get even harrier when you consider that the planets are never in even remotely the same position relative to Earth (compared to such paltry distances as from say LA to NY) on the same day from year to year. Shit, sometimes Neptune is even the furthest planet from the sun.

Just look at these differences in orbital speed:
    Venus: 2101.2 km/h
    Earth: 1779.5 km/h
    Mars: 1444.62 km/h
    Jupiter: 784.2 km/h
    Pluto: 279.96 km/h

And to think, their orbits all have different shapes, too!

Truly, I think the theoretical physicists should step down from their pedestals and allow the transcendent astrologers to take their places!

One would think that any remote correlation between birth time, place, and temperament, may be due to the weather and its general effects on the moods of caretakers, and indeed the child's own experiences, during various stages of development; however, that's far too obvious for astrologers. It's all in the stars and planets, man... and I only wish I were brilliant enough to share in their vast understanding of the mysteries of life, the universe, and everything.

May I be your apprentice, sir?

I would give you the time I was born, but there was only 1 person born in Atlantis at 9:43 AM at the Eyedyot clinic, and I think you might be able to identify me that way. So, no time for you, I'm afraid.

  10. Anyone ever tell you that you're nuts, Peter?

  11. Yes, they even named a brand of peanut butter after me. It's the nuttiest, I tell you.

  12. I wonder, do comments get deleted here? I made a somewhat unpleasant one, but a truthful one, I believe. But it's not here.

I mean, aren't sociopaths supposed to be above such bullshit? They aren't supposed to have the fragile egos so common among normals.

  14. Here, I'll post some random astrological crap for you. I was praying to Lord Jupiter when I found it, so I know it must be for you.

Like the majority of Earth signs, you are efficient, concrete and not too emotional. What matters to you is what you see: you judge the tree by its fruits. Your ideas keep changing, words disappear, but actions and their consequences are visible and remain. Express your sensitivity, even if it means revealing your vulnerability. Emotions, energy and communication must not be neglected; concrete action is meaningless if it is not justified by your heart, your intellect or your enthusiasm.

Cheers for communication and mobility! The predominance of Air signs in your chart favours and amplifies your taste for relations and for all kinds of short trips, whether real (travels) or symbolic (new ideas, mind speculations). You gain in flexibility and adaptability what you lose in self-assertion or in pragmatism.

The twelve zodiacal signs are split up into three groups or modes, called quadruplicities, a learned word meaning only that these three groups include four signs. The Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable modes are more or less represented in your natal chart, depending on planets' positions and importance, and on angles in the twelve signs.

I take this to mean that you're impractical, unrealistic and wishy-washy. And overly sensitive, though you hide it behind a veil of broken logic. No force of will. Perhaps hiding behind an ideology?

Maybe there's something to this shit!

(assuming, of course, that Lord Jupiter presented me with the right description)

  15. @Peter Pan
    You're probably right.

Anyway, you said what I wanted to, but more eloquently. I'm not very good at irony in English, as a non-native speaker, the best I can do is being blunt & concise.

  16. I really think less of this blog, seeing as the author is entertaining astrology at all.

To the curious fellow asking for birth dates: if you are serious, know that your practice is completely absolutely full of shit.

It has been said before, but I'm saying it again.

  17. Hey, I'm a girly girl, so I'm up for this astrology shit. I had my birth chart done a couple times before, and each time was told I had all the hallmarks of a sociopath- merry fun eh? Birth info: 23 March 1978, time 23.55, location Manchester, United Kingdom. When/ if the chart is done- you will see for yourself- I am a NUT and PROUD!! I blame the stars ;) Take it easy! TeeHee!!

  19. for obvious reasons, gone into somewhat by peter pan above, any personality-birthday correlation cannot be influenced by the positions of the planets.

it is plausible that seasonal changes could create a weak pattern correlating birth date with personality. however this is completely unsupported by a huge wealth of data.

if you believe in astrology read this and then change your opinion.
most opinions come before evaluation of evidence - that is human nature - but if you have self knowledge and are honest with yourself you have to be able to change your opinion when confronted by suitable evidence, instead of becoming defensive and digging your heels in.

  20. More people need to be on http://sociopath-community.com/

!!! it used to be connected to this blog but was disconnected over a year ago. We need fresh blood and lots of interesting things have happened recently (relates to kiwifar.ms drama: https://archive.is/M2tXa) that will go down in the forum's history! Be sure to check out http://www.psychforums.com/antisocial-personality/ too, as some of its regulars are regulars on SC too!

Goddamn ME refused to reconnect the blog to the forum so we SC goers will just have to spam advertisements for the forum in the comments section. ;)
