If the public sector atrophies, the scope for manipulation broadens, because the information about what's available outside the public sector shrinks. Nor is this just crazy speculation. I actually think it's pretty reasonable when conservatives worry that the Dutch attitudes towards euthanasia are influenced by the burden old people and severely disabled children put on the public purse. I don't see how they could fail to be.What then does a society of sociopaths look like? The Dutch are very efficient, utilitarian, and all of them ride bikes. They invented several of the world's evils including things like slave trade, diamond trade, and imperialism. They're also very tolerant, traditionally a haven for religious minorities like the soon-to-be American pilgrims. Once you're too old to be functional to society, you kill yourself, always with one eye on the bottom line, e.g. gay okay but old decrepit, not so much. And they're firm believers in the free market. Not so bad, is it? I mean there are tradeoffs in everything, right?

Society of sociopaths
People are always asking what a society of sociopaths would look like. As i have suggested before, there already is a society of sociopaths. It is the Dutch. And I'm not the only one who has suggested that the Dutch are as cold and calculating as they come. A libertarian blogger posting about the proposed universal health care in the United States writes:

ReplyDeleteThere was this Dutch kid that was in my circle of friends at the boarding school I attended growing up here in England and he was such a fucker. You could never work him out.
Frustratingly he happened to be the biggest and strongest in our year and would be the first to intimidate or threaten you if you said, did, think anything in any way, shape or form out of the ordinary. So when he was around we all had to conform to his dim-witted alpha-male tediousness.
However, when the lights went out he would be the first to make homo-erotic advances at you. Even though I was never interested. Unfortunately I was quite the pretty-boy back at school. But I managed to survive by my wits.
But also during the holidays, we’d all be invited to stay with his extended family in their huge mansion with the swimming pool by the golf-course. And pretty much everyone I knew lost their virginity to his slutty (though fortunately hot looking) Dutch sisters who hung around us younger males.
All the while smoking the most premium weed, scoffing hash-cakes, and gobbling LSD bought over by their extended-family druggy cousins and assorted hangers-on while the parents played cards with 'return of the living dead' Aunts and Uncles all night before going to church on Sunday – seemingly oblivious to the debauchery that was going on under their roof all night, every night.
Actually, writing this now, the Dutch aren’t that bad. In fact, I quite like ‘em.

The military even encourage singling out weak people and beat abuse them. In WWII their theory behind these policies was basically it causes Stockholm syndrome and it will make these soldiers more willing to sacrifice themselves during battle. Most Russian guys are total ass holes, while Russian women act as their pets.

A real sociopath a true one is one who cannot be influenced....when all the world says that they are a failure, loser, etc. they don't blink they carry on because no one matters..not even to take teh time to respond or attack in turn.....does anyone understand what I mean?

DeleteI'm trying to say that nothing anyone does or says means anything at all..society, family, friends, people in general mean nothing....their approval disapproval mean nothing..don't waste your time playing games....sociopaths are attracted to them because they are good at it and it makes me feel powerful but it's empty and leads to nothing in the long term...the short term gains are temporary and few. restraint is a wonderful thing;-)

when I was younger I was a geek who loved to study and I loved ballet..so I charged my fellow students for essays and reports;-) and had a hot body...but I never could connect on a real level. I never cared about anyone but myself..not even to gossip or hang out, I was constantly either in rehearsal or writing papers for other people....

Deleteanon 7:40 ha ha whatever..I really have a hard time feeling emotions feeling anything except stagnancy boredom the passing of time that's when I get depressed in order to combat that I need extremes to feel something...I do anything I can to get my thrills otherwise I am in a very dark place. I don't cut myself but starve, do bikram and run marathons so that I hurt everywhere, I am promiscuous with no attachment masochistic and sadistic at the same time, workaholic, I feel good when I give to my family, I don't sleep, I've tried every drug I have an addictive side, I am so f*** up I can't even begin to put in words and yet....I'm okay i can manage;-) I'm writing a lot now Bret Easton Ellis inspires me a great deal

Deleteyes I feel a high from the pain..I can't explain it but growing up with ballet and being very disciplined about it I've always enjoyed a certain masochistic pleasure from pain. It's made me appear to be OCD about grades, appearance, etc.... but underneath it to tell the truth i don't care so much what I achieve but revel in the pain of getting there the harder it is the more difficult the more it hurts the more I want it...I get my deviant thrills from strange placces... I like the pain and always have and its carried over to my relationships and work. I like to pick the hardest, most difficult people, situations, work, I know it makes no sense....I always feel alone no matter how successful people think I am, or how many times I hear the L word, or how little I weigh...its never enough it never will be..there's an emptiness I can't ever fill it;s like this void and it hurts all the time and nothing fills it but it's ok I can deal

DeleteHaven - there's all these expensive store bought ones and spa places..I just do a simple one - orange juice, grapefruit juice, tomato juice, water with lemon I have these in unlimited quantities for 3 days it's great. There's also a strained vegetable broth you can do you can google the recipe it's pretty simple. It's better than any diet;) and it's like a drug at first you feel weak but then the energy comes in bursts it's a very interesting feeling...amazing how little food teh body really needs! I admit I do these to fight my craving for more destructive things...works for me

It's about me you say.. I am not sure what to make of that. I am the opposite of you in terms of independence and going for universal truth. YOu have always been there for me... No you haven't. I your limited and submissive view of the world I can find no help, just the oppoosite. You make me lose hope that universal good can override. You prevent improvement with the compassion that you offer to the likes of Rich. You just accept him as is, or you may look up some astrology, which I consider heavy bull shit. You are like a drug, like religion is, where mind is expected to give in to faith and wait for death.
