The closest thing would be successful psychopaths vs criminal psychopaths (yes, they treat success and being a criminal as mutually exclusive). Criminal psychopaths are those who have a long string of convictions, successful psychopaths have few or no convictions. This doesn't mean, incidentally, that they haven't done crimes, though probably most haven't done *as many* crimes, or as serious. Instead it means they've managed to avoid getting caught for crimes. Intelligence can play a part, but the biggest difference is a) better impulse control, and b) less need for excitement (two sides of the same coin, really). Successful psychopaths are the ones who have the patience and self-control. They still lack empathy, but don't have the low anxiety traits as much (anxiety can be pretty adaptive, if you're scared of something you'll take measures to avoid it).

I wouldn't be surprised if successful psychopaths are overrepresented in online communities like this one. Just think, for a psychopath who is cautious enough not to show their true colors in real life, an anonymous forum could be a good chance to be themselves for once. And successful psychopaths are more likely to have gotten a lot of schooling (because they're more likely to apply themselves and less likely to get kicked out for misbehavior) and better-educated people tend to spend more time on the internet. (More likely to be able to afford internet, more likely to be fluent readers/writers, more likely to want to seek out information online, etc.)Ettinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08230821659466586897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628748600098131100.post-8759057322612182332011-11-18T19:01:33.218-08:002011-11-18T19:01:33.218-08:00hester shawhester shawAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628748600098131100.post-83603620868550354802011-11-14T19:03:14.656-08:002011-11-14T19:03:14.656-08:00Great article thanks for sharing it, another good ...Great article thanks for sharing it, another good reason for sociopaths to out ourselves more is because it may help society better understand us and meet our needs. Too often we're raised in conditions where "just feel bad" or "because I said so" are about our only guide to morality, that some turn out like Jon Roberts shouldn't be surprising to anyone the way society just completely fails to account for us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628748600098131100.post-75821677182861438332011-11-14T05:56:32.701-08:002011-11-14T05:56:32.701-08:00u iz spath.u iz spath.i iz narcnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628748600098131100.post-28933207033831181502011-11-13T01:37:13.532-08:002011-11-13T01:37:13.532-08:00So lets say dean is right, sociopaths can be saint...So lets say dean is right, sociopaths can be saints... what does that say for the catholic church? Very interesting! I’ve known this guy a few years and he seems to base his whole identity on the fact that he thinks he is a brilliant person, nice to everyone and entertaining. When in fact he is a very offensive person, very misogynistic, superficial and narcissistic. When I pointed out to him that something he said had upset me, instead of apologizing he launched a tirade of abuse at me! It was as if I had attempted to destroy this delusional perception he has of himself, and deluding himself further was far more important to him than simply saying sorry. I’ve always found people who lack empathy (what I consider to be a sociopath) quite intriguing.Mariahnoreply@blogger.com
