Treatment Or Help For Children Who Have Threatened Or Showed Violence

Violence and Children

We live in a culture that seems to becoming increasingly violent. Not only are adults violent, but children can also exhibit violent behavior. More often than not, violent behavior in children is not taken seriously. Parents, teachers and other adults are very quick to say that this type of behavior is a phase that the child is growing through and end it will end soon. However, violent behavior in children is something that should always be taken seriously.

What Causes Violent Behavior in Children?

There are a variety of things that can cause a child to become violent. Children who grow up in a home where violence is common are more likely to become violent. Other problems in the home, such as poverty and divorce, can trigger violent behavior in children. Furthermore, children who spend a lot of time watching violent television shows and playing violent video games are more likely to become violent.

What Are Some of the Warning Signs?

A child who is prone to violent behavior will usually exhibit warning signs. Some of those signs include irritability, intense anger and frequent loss of temper. Children who are prone to violent behavior may also get frustrated easily.

How Can Violent Behavior In Children Be Treated?

Again, violent behavior is something that needs to be stopped early. This behavior will only continue to get worse as a child gets older. Children who have had a history of violence should be seen by a mental health professional. The goal of professional treatment is to get child to control his or her anger and to teach him or her how to express it in a healthy way. Treatment will also teach a child how to accept responsibility for his or her own actions.

How Can Violent Behavior In Children Be Prevented?

One of the best things that can be done to prevent violent behavior in children is to reduce the child's exposure to violence. Children should not spend a lot of time watching violent movies and television shows. Parents also need to make sure that they avoid harshly punishing their children because that can also cause violent behavior. It is quite obvious that exposure to violence can cause a person to become violent.

  1. Great topic.

Does anyone know about resources for adults, esp. women? It seems like everything is geared toward men and domestic violence. IDK, maybe anger management is anger management...

    1. Good morning Rich!

      How are you??

A lot of people here dont talk as much as you do. In detail, that is. I wish that more people would do that from time to time.

I left you a stupid reply with exaggeration and slightly fake story for you to think it was funny yesterday, but nobody said anything. It was trigger for me . I hope you did not think i was doing it to mirror you. some people here think it is a game on you to do it. Idk if you were thinking that at all. i am probably just projecting. but anyway, just to be sure, I wasnt trying to do that to you. Ok?

    7. Thanks Rich. No he isn't homeless. He's just a con artist that I'm guessing is also a drug addict. He has a nice haircut, with highlights, clean clothes. He seems a little high. On himself, too. .

He enjoys his con-artistry. I get a very strong narcissistic vibe with him.
I am amazed he fools people so very easily.

    3. Yeah, i was. At least 1-2 fights a week. Sometimes 2 at the same day.

  4. On subject. I was almost kicked out of kindergarten for getting into so many fights. And outside of the school was even worse... daily. I slowed it down a little in 1st and 2nd grades but fights contiued through school and even into college. Brawling used to REAL fun.

    1. I got in fights, too, but not as many. Kids fighting is pretty normal, but I'm glad a few people are even talking about that. I was hoping I'm not the only person here who's had an issue with violence. QM

  5. I've read a few studys about that, a while ago.

Violence in movies, shows and video games does not make children violent. This would only be possible if the child is not able to differenciate between what he has seen and the real world.

It is correct, that violent children tend to consume more violent media than non-violent children, but that doesn't mean that violent media makes non violent children violent.

    3. LoL.

Speed would increase the possibility that the kid is going to crack up some skulls.

      Someone should definately try that.

    4. ritalin is amphetamine

    5. So is speed, but the effect is way different.

      Delete
    6. no it's not ive done both have you?

      Delete
    7. Yeah. And the effect is different, because the whole purpose is different.

    8. Ritalin is a stimulant. It is not amphetamine. It actually has a calming effect with ADHD.

      Delete
    9. Coffee calms people with ADHD, too. It is the homeopathic effect. Like cures like

      Delete
    10. Actually it doesn't. If i give one of my friends with ADHD a cup of coffee, he'll go completely insane.

      Delete
    11. Seriously. Coffee may as well be speed for me. Two cups has me bouncing off the walls. I love it. :)

    10. That seems a bit overkill. How retarded does an 'Ass-head' get?

    11. Definition of AssheadFebruary 26, 2013 at 4:46 PM

The dictionary defines an ass head as someone who has his posterior where his anterior should be. When his lips speak, his ass does, too. Hence, we get the phrase "talking out of your ass"

  8. Violence is what happens when you take things too seriously, due to either impatience, or an overblown ego.

What usually helps is to look for the humour in a situation, or to try and understand the emotions and motivations involved, so you don't find yourself jumping to a conclusion and losing your shit.

Violence always ends up causing more problems than what it solves.

    1. For adults, I think you're right. Humor would be awesome if I could see it. What I do is bite my tongue, sit on my hands, keep it locked down or leave.

I don't lose control anymore, but from childhood to 21 I did and badly. I think impatience was part of it but I don't remember it as an ego thing. What's worse is my reactions were so fast, I don't remember any thought before I started and it was so satisfying, it used to be really hard to stop myself. And I seemed to have this instant instinct that my target was one I could get away with. I never got caught.

I completely agree that violence solves nothing. I don't think it's awesome. Actually the lack of control I showed in the past concerns me. I'm not sure I can trust my own instincts, but second guessing myself is a tiring way to live. QM
