Truly smart?

A reader who identifies as sociopath sent me this passage from a teenage journal:

What makes someone smart, truly smart, in my opinion is someone who is self-aware. Someone who recognizes their place in the world and who recognizes the place of others. They see things as they are. A smart person realizes they're smart but can fool the rest of the world into believing that they are just like them. By doing so, they can feed off and learn from these people. They do not need to harm them but merely take in as much as they can in order to survive in the best, most logical, and beneficial way. I guess it's like using resources, but a different kind of resources, not tangible ones that anybody can see or use, and they are able to do so without a soul figuring out what they are doing. That is being smart.

  7. Being smart is a relative term. Being smart can mean all sorts of things and honestly it doesn't matter. Nietzsche said that cowards are smart. I totally agree. You need to be smart to prance around and never get in trouble and when you do if you don't solve it by being powerful and smart but only by being smart, it is shit. Who gives a fuck about a smart person. Nobody. Smart persons suck. Seriously. Power is what matters. Power over yourself and over others. You can be not that smart but be powerful. You won't need to be that smart if you're powerful.

    3. Rembrandt your philosophy is so flawed. The Village Idiot might be the most physically strong individual in his town but without intellect that strength makes him no more than an oxen who can pull the heavy loads for its master.

To be truly powerful one must have intelligence to know how to wield the sword properly without it you're left just thrashing in effectively. Possibly severing your own limbs in the process.

Sometimes a person may inherit a position of power through inheritance, say, but if they lack the brains to carry on the power and what goes with it will be lost.

      Delete
    4. I am sorry stellar idiot but that guy you talk about who inherited the power still has the power. If he's not smart enough to keep it growing or running, others will take that job from him no worries. Look at Paris Hilton.

    5. I fucking hate your kind of people Lunar, by the way. You sort of idiots can't think a lot, can you? I know a guy like you in real life. I am always ignoring stupidity but the bad thing is you idiots believe that I can't come up with an argument and you must be right. That wouldn't be a problem either cause I know that at some point you will go thorough a lot of shit and will be really dumb and won't know what you're doing wrong and will start getting frustrated thinking that the world around you is wrong. Like a blind man in a labyrinth.

The worst thing about it is that you get your egos buffed up and you think your will is worthy of exercising cause you think your thinking is right. But it isn't. You are what is wrong with the world.

You are part of those 6 billion people that aren't necessary to earth.

      You are the village idiot.

    6. You're hilarious Rembrandt. You know nothing about me but be that as it may, what you're frothing at the mouth about is you can't think outside the box you're locked in.

Becoming angry at another individual's point of view isn't very productive as a human And learning a new perspective apparently not carrying potential for you. That's ignorance in the highest form.

Too funny guy. What you hate about my stellar personality is the fact I have my own mind and have found my thought processes through seeking alternate answers.

So while you think I'm what's wrong with this Big Real, that's your prerogative and I'm not faulting you for that but I'm certain you've got it assbackwards. Hahaha!

      Carry on you wayward son.

  14. today's post... this smart reader who will mask the smarts and act like the others... like any other mask, it's terribly difficult to keep on for a long period of time. Idiocy has a way f driving smart people crazy. To eliminate the impact of idiocy and keep the mask on one would need to keep the relationships/interactions at a minimal level, and this invariably leads to alienation of sorts. This strategy could work if there is at least a few smart people to keep one connected, and keep the mask on for the others who are shades of stupid.

People who spend their lives running after money and power beyond what is sufficient and smart are the key idiots, these are the ones who never retire, these are the ones who die just a few months before their supposed retirement day.

All of this is not a message to you, Rich. You have not worked at all yet. I am really curious what you provide for your mom and stepdad to keep them busily providing you with booze and drugs. I'd think this way they are avoiding shame and guilt, because no normal child would approve of such loser parents. You three could have your own reality show, a version of Honey Boo Boo Child.

  15. Truly Good? Being so smart you don't need to feed off people, rather are capable of helping them and helping yourself even more. Feeding off people is what parasites do. Thanks again for your time and energy, and thanks again for your blog ;)

  16. It stuck with me what ME said when his apartment was robbed.

He did not know how to act.

This struck me as very illustrative of a PD, any PD. There would be a range in how diffuse one's nature would be and this would depend on the severity of the PD. However, I think all PD's have this in common.

We have lost our compass. Our core is compromised such that it is diffuse, not solid.

I think that people without PD's have a solid core. It would vary within a range, of course, as there is no definitive normal.

However, in my desire to heal my PD, I see the goal of having a solid sense of self, as one of the most important goals.

I practice this when I am with people. I practice speaking from my core and following my compass. I like myself when I do this :D

I am honest and funny. People like me, too, even hard asses.

It is a work in progress and painful as hell. However, I lived in hell for so what do I have to lose?

    1. I don't see you as having that extremely flexible and diffuse identity that some disorders do, Monica. Do you see there being a range of identity issues that manifest themselves differently depending on the disorder, or are you talking specifically about one's self perception/sense of self?

    2. I hate when aberrant issues crop up line that. My truck got a window smashed at a pub recntly. Fucking made me mad. Cops on the scene were not into the management phase of watching the parking lot.

  17. Elicit, I was thinking about a co-dependent woman I know. She told me that she is insecure, very self doubting and has terrible guilt about wanting anything for herself.

This is an example of a skewed sense of self, in that she is not any better or worse than anyone else, in reality.

For me, I have voices in my head, telling me I am a worthless, selfish, vain, neurotic on and on.

I am seeing how I am not any of these things, any more than anyone else.

In that sense, my identity is diffuse.

However, diffuse identity is on a spectrum from having skewed thoughts about yourself to having an amorphous identity, such as ME writes about.

All are distortions of the self. All can be said to be diffuse, in a general way. That is what I meant, Elicit.

  18. One day people will learn that things like "smart" are relative.

All information is only as good as the context in which its used.

Not to mention, to get information from people, learning everything about them... you don't have to be underhanded to do it. You are just as likely to learn every little thing about someone by being genuine and *gasp* listening like any other person in active conversation would do.

Sometimes people put way too much stock in what they think are special skills at learning things, when it takes nothing more than being engaging.

    2. Do you know how easy it is for me to garner people's trust? People tell me everything and it really doesn't take much. You don't have to be a sociopath to be charming.

Being what you need to accomplish what you're seeking to do? I take it you've never bothered to take a genuine interest in someone you converse with purely for the sake of having a conversation with a stranger?

You talk like everyone has to have an agenda all the time. Which to be fair, even just having a conversation for entertainments sake can be considered an agenda; but if you think it's impossible to be charming an engaging unless you also believe yourself to be an elitist sociopath, you're dumber than you sound.

And I did not like the twitter quote, supposedly from a female narcissist, saying she wants people to notice she is smart rather than pretty.

I did not like it that it needed to specify that it was from a narcissist OR from a woman. Plenty of normal, healthy women AND MEN feel this way.

I have a young, male relative so beautiful to look at it almost hurts. He cannot stand it when a girl makes like: "show me what you got, handsome". It is way too much pressure for him, he said. AND he thinks they're idiots. So fuck you, twitter.
