Tactics of manipulation

A reader sent me this video:

With this comment:
It is sad how some people do not understand us, but will try to anyways. He acts as if it is us (normal society) versus them (manipulators). He is also a hypocrite, everyone manipulates people. I found this video quite ridiculous. I think all of society manipulates, but sociopaths are probably especially good at it (or at least would like to be, and we also are aware of our ability).

  16. I think the only reason Bill gets watched, franky, by any intelligent person, is because his own behavior is "reality show entertainment" You want to see what his weirdness is like -tonight! He's a caricature. You don't watch for content, you observe his bizarre behavior. If you watch Colbert's mock interviews, it's just an hysterical exaggeration if Billo's tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  17. And the problem is that people will watch for content, and get sucked in to his take on a subject matter! He's a railroader and doesn't take no for an answer. Being overly confident, and not seeing another's point of view. Put a strong, boisterous personality behind that, and hey, you've got a crazy charismatic hypnotizer.

  33. Psychopaths may know they are manipulative, but they don't plan out every manipulation, it's as if they are on auto pilot, it's their nature to be manipulative, they can't just stop doing it. Therefore psychopaths aren't exactly responsible for their behavior and damage on others.

"know they are manipulative, but they don't plan out every manipulation, it's as if they are on auto pilot, it's their nature to be manipulative, they can't just stop doing it."

I agree with you to an extent. Mostly because your statement also applies to BPD as well. While every manipulation may not be planned, and often isn't, there's still an aspect of self-awareness that allows for a person to understand what they're doing and correct that action. Or choose a different course of action before they start. This may only apply to those that are higher functioning though.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Very true Haven, therefore they should be put on an island or in a special community were they can prey on one another without inflicting damage on family, coworkers and friends.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anon 8:39,

Psychopaths may know they are manipulative, but they don't plan out every manipulation, it's as if they are on auto pilot, it's their nature to be manipulative, they can't just stop doing it. Therefore psychopaths aren't exactly responsible for their behavior and damage on others.

Again, it depends on many things, first of all intellect. Sure, it takes effort to stop, but I can do it. I do it as I write this.

But how can you tell? Where does manipulation stop and objective truth begin?

Like many above states, manipulation is in everything we do. All of us, not only psychopaths. Reality is a manipulation.

When we manipulate we assert a different aspect to reality and convince you to agree with it, perhaps unknowingly, but it happens all the time.

Do politicians manipulate? I think that's where neurotypical people might want to start if they really want to know what's going on. Manipulation is about awareness. You can't manipulate someone who knows what you're doing, can you?

There's a good reason why psychopaths are getting the heat these days, it's so damned convenient.

On a different note, I've noticed every time manipulation or psychopathy in general comes up on a show from Billo-boy, the viewers end up talking about those traits in him. Take a look on Youtube, there're plenty of examples there.

Personally I don't find him entertaining. But then, psychopaths rarely find each other entertaining. Ha.
Okay, I'm kidding. I think he's a narcissist, he's not a psychopath in the classic sense.

One more to Anon: When I stop being manipulative people generally don't like what they see. Not because they don't like me, but because they don't like what I show them about themselves. I've seen it on this board too. The little spoiled AsPD'ers can have a hard time handling the truth, but then, they are also not psychopaths. *s*

  40. Haven,

I wonder what would happen if people were suddenly graced with the ability to see themselves with perfect acuity.

Perfect acuity doesn't exist, baby. That's why this will never happen. There'll always be another brand new reality that is more accurate than the old one.

Religion used to be reality. That's what people saw as real. Then it was exchanged with psychology and empirical science - which is also a psychological phenomenon. You can't experience reality outside of your own neuro-psychological reality. All you can do is create new versions for yourself.

Too philosophical, guys? Well that's where conversations go if you insist on truth.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I wonder what would happen if people were suddenly graced with the ability to see themselves with perfect acuity.

I believe this is known as peering into the abyss. Perfect acuity is impossible, of course, but I dare say that most people can get close enough to the edge of meaninglessness when (their) fundamental assumptions are shattered and illusions are lost. Boredom is a beast, too.

Psychology and empirical science can't thrive in the West without consumerism. To my mind that's currently the dominant religion - psychologists and scientists are its messengers of 'hope.'

  48. Zhawq... Oh yes. I do know very well that perfect acuity doesn't exit. For as much as I can empathize (Hah) with the victims of those that have fallen prey to master manipulators I also know that people are not a snowy white innocence that they wish to believe of themselves. No human is immune from manipulation or being the manipulator and people don’t seem to want to own up to their own inner demons. It's easier to cry and whine about being taken advantage of then it is to do something about it. Especially when it diverts attention from a trait they also share.

They are capable of an intelligence that makes them less susceptible to the manipulations of others if they put some effort into learning what to recognize. Instead of complaining ceaselessly, people should stop pointing fingers and put in a little effort of their own to better themselves so as to not be preyed upon. However, people are lazy.

Necrophilia is only enticing if you can ensure your climax coincides with the death throes (I realizes that's a personal opinion and there are those of you who prefer a more cadaverous encounter).   In any event,  the mechanics are better worked through with animals.  Chickens best marry the attributes of ease, convenience and performance.  Live birds are widely available,  little valued and perform beautifully, the  flapping is quite something and they can be easily manipulated into position.

I personally favor Fornaphilia but prefer mannequins to women. A human body not only raises the temperature of my scotch but most fit slaves --i prefer yogis of SoCal extraction, who can assume and maintain elaborate positions and blush along a nuanced palette--  make  rather uneven cocktail tables.  As such, meeting out punishment for spilling cocktails tends to be harsher than need be as it inconveniently spoils the enjoyment I get from Billo & Fox News.

  58. Aspie,

I've written a few articles about the peculiar stare or gaze that we often hear about in relation to psychopaths.

I wonder if you would honor me by taking a look at what I've written. I'm asking you because I have been told by some people with Asperger's that this is something they too seem to be associated with. One of my readers send me a couple of photos of aspies that were taken just as they had this peculiar look, and I must say, they did seem somewhat like what I've noticed in a few of the psychopaths I was in a program with in prison.

It would make me glad if you'd take a look and give me your two cents on the issue.

    Thank you in advance.

  59. Ra Ra Rasputin,

I believe this is known as peering into the abyss.

That is indeed the impression I often get when I take people up on their word and stop manipulating. I force them to see themselves without the sugarcoating of manipulation, and they become terrified.
Of course, that too is nothing more than their own manipulated interpretation of how they think they "really" are.

Personally I often find people most beautiful when they're naked to their own eye like this. I also find the abyss that I see when I look at my own reflection beautiful.

I dare say that most people can get close enough to the edge of meaninglessness when (their) fundamental assumptions are shattered and illusions are lost.

I have often been told by my so called victims that I've done exactly this: Brought them to see there is meaning where before they could find none. I always provide means for them to create new illusions, but with awareness, and assumptions they largely give up altogether.

    Boredom is a beast, too.

So I hear. Clinicians seem to believe I'm easily bored. I say I don't know about boredom at all. I always know how to seek up the stimulation in life that I need, and I need stimulation a plenty. - Of course, they see this as me being shallow and easily bored (again!), but to me a shallow person would not be able to deal with or appreciate great stimulation, or the inspiration it brings. I have a large insatiable appetite for life, and that - in my understanding - takes unusual depth in a person.

Psychology and empirical science can't thrive in the West without consumerism. To my mind that's currently the dominant religion - psychologists and scientists are its messengers of 'hope.'

It's an interesting thought that psychology and empirical science can't thrive in the West without consumerism. I would be interested in learning how you have arrived at this conclusion. I'd be pleased if you'd tell me more about it.

    Sparklebug,

THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS! At least you can ADMIT IT.

At last? I've never made a secret of what kind of person I am, nor about how I operate both in general and when I'm out for something more special.
This very subject is central to my Psychopathic Writings project; it is about providing honest information about all the things most know on a superficial level about psychopaths but which few know about in explicit detail.

There's a certain source of information "like" mine, contrived over the last couple of decades from psychopaths on a so called 'volunteer' basis. There's just that little issue with it: They're all incarcerated and "volunteer" because it provides an opportunity for early probation.

I was in such a project myself for over 7 years prior to my release 2,5 yrs ago, and believe me when I say: The info they get from an incarcerated person lacks some very central bits and pieces that can only come from someone who chooses to talk about them without any form of coercion, subtle or hidden or obvious.

Scientists and clinical researchers know this, and that is why the information I provide on my website is of rare value.

That said, being completely honest is not something that comes easy or naturally - not in the long run. And it is a constant struggle, I will not deny it, and manipulative bits do creep into my texts from time to time. It's an ongoing process to do what I'm doing, but I do my best. And I can say quite frankly that I do better than any non-incarcerated psychopath that I have come across - also on the Net!

  63. Manipulation: to manage or influence skillfully, especially in an unfair manner

I think the issue here is that the author is talking about an apple when we're talking about a carton of them.

Saying everyone subtly manipulates on a regular basis I believe is simply not true, nor do they all do it covertly. A certain level of intelligence and cleverness is needed to incorporate such behavior into ones MO. But more brash or upfront manipulation, like threatening, beating, or heavily hinting is incredibly common, because not only do less intelligent and less clever individuals utilize it, but so do the more intelligent and clever when it is considered the optimal path from point A to point B.

For me, my manipulation is not always on auto-pilot. I have been deliberately manipulating people knowing full well what I am doing for as long as I can remember.

    After all, victory loves preparation.

  68. Anon 11:10,

I'd love to see billo argue with vaknin, i think billo would rip him apart.

    You think wrong.

    Sparklebug,

There were the dark days. And I got sick of it. SO I CHANGED. I got an ego. Sorry if that kills you sociopaths:) Yes I realized I was allowed to have one too.

That's the kind of neurotypical/normal people I like the very best by far. I never did take much interest in ego-less people, normal or otherwise.
People should have an ego, that's where the 'spunk' comes from, and where's the fun if there's no 'spunk'?

Everybody should have one, so they don't have these lousy sexual fantasies about humiliating people and scaring them and so on in order to feel better about themselves.

Those who have sexual fantasies about scaring their partner because it makes them feel better about themselves, generally don't have much of an ego, really. They're the truly petty ones, and they're so easy to take apart. Mostly I don't bother though, as I said: I'm not interested in petty ego-less people who have to compensate in order to convince themselves they're 'okay', or 'magnificent', and other such insignificant shit.

Only losers have to lower others to raise themselves.

This is the truth, clear and simple!

Get a grip if you want to think of yourselves as men instead of really good evidence for those who espouse eugenics. Kay? Please.

Indeed. And the same goes for the women, of course. They're not immune to this. And it's a weakness that follows in the wake of emotional people who want to be something they're not. It's also these kinds of people who look up to and want to be "sociopaths" themselves, because they think it must be cool to feel superior by putting others down.

The point here is that psychopaths do not put others down in order to make ourselves feel we're stronger than we are. It's a very common misconception, though (and it's yet another of the things I try to explain at my website).

    CHANGE
That is the sociopath's responsibility as well.

    Yes!!

But change takes work, sacrifice, risk. You have to lay it on the line, get real, share, etc. Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh MY.

Sacrifice, laying things on the line, being "real" and share, etc. etc., are all things that can appeal greatly to an intelligent psychopathic individual, provided certain circumstances make it attractive in the 'right' kind of way.

I put forth the claim that I am trying to do what you describe here.

We're talking about a bunch of Gollums here. Don't think it's gonna happen.

You know, there's one thing I love about my life and my past history: I've always had an amazing ability to do what everybody say they don't think is going to happen; what they don't believe I can do.

As a matter of fact, this very aspect is one of the main things that fuels my wish to make my project succeed, it stirs me on, and I have some fairly unique tenacity and consistency when it takes me! ;)

    Mr. Fox,

Necrophilia is only enticing if you can ensure your climax coincides with the death throes (I realizes that's a personal opinion and there are those of you who prefer a more cadaverous encounter).

You're mixing up a special branch of sexual sadism with necrophelia!

The most common thing for these people is to prefer the body to be motionless and quite dead already before they set eyes on them.

Almost none take part in killings, but if they do, they do it only in order to arrive at the state they want, or need: To have a dead partner.

    UKan,

Zwaq: You went in too? How long did you stay?

I assume that's for me? How come you can't spell a simple 5 letter word? That's the kind of thing that makes my respect drop ever so slightly, pal. And you know how it is, respect doesn't sit high in the first place. It takes something real special to make it register on the meter at all to begin with. I know you know what I mean, for we're not that different in this regard. - Ah well, who cares...

Did I go in and stay how long where?

I'm not messing with ya, I just need you to be a little more specific is all.

Sparklebug get off your stool you dumb cunt.

People don't get lowered to raise up people, they are already low.

Lowered people don't raise anybody, period! And raised people can't get lowered by those who are low. It's just not gonna happen.

I know you (UKan) know that, and I'm not saying it for you.
I'm saying it for all the others who seem to be very confused about this, despite it really is incredibly simple.

    - Yeah, so eat me, I'm a sucker and a very, very nice person who want to just help everybody understand! Haha.

There's winners in life and there are losers.

Yeah, I should be grateful that I always win, I just can't wrap my mind about the idea of loosing.

Speaking for myself I'm winning every day.

And ain't it grand? Me, I simply love it!

I do what I want whenever I feel like it.

Slightly exaggerated when seen from a certain perspective.

On the other hand, who would want to do certain things they would love to do if they know it's gonna burn them beyond return?

So yeah, it certainly sums up how I feel most of the time.

There're two occasions in my life where I didn't do what I felt like when I felt like it. But hey, life moves on. The occasional loosing of a battle give you opportunity to learn, and it keeps you alert.

In a year or two I'll be thanking my stroke of fortune that I happened to loose that one battle... for the time being. I'm going to turn that minor loss into an even greater victory. And it may sound like big words, but I can speak them because I know myself and have plenty of experience to back them up. Indeed, I really have no reason to fear defeat or that I won't make the best of what I have, what I get, and what I take/will take.

I take what you say seriously. I can see you have valid points and you actually put some effort into forming a personal perspective - instead of what we're so used to around these parts, having people come in a dumping prejudiced bias quotes they've read elsewhere on us and pretending they've thought it up themselves.

I am interested in seeing where my project will take me, and I it.
It will also be interesting to see how my work may influence the general global "debate" about psychopathy and related conditions - though there're still some aspects that need to be taken further. That'll come, though. I'm fairly confident with what I'm doing... Though, as always with unconventional and potentially big ideas there're no guarantees. *s*

  95. UKan,

Lower people raised me significantly. Their helpful contributions have had me living a life they could never deserve.

Funny how it goes, ain't it. Haha.

I might say lower people have raised me - in a way they have - but the truth is I made them do what they did, which raised me. In the end of the day it's just a matter of phrasing.
But it's still my doing, and I've had plenty of people, lower, medium and "raised", help me and assist me.

And I'll wager I haven't met the last to do so either. But hey, I never manipulate! I just choose my words carefully.

Your respect means nothing to me, as you should know.

I don't completely buy that, UKan. You may not be the most feeling person in the world, and neither am I. But we all have feelings, and being 'respected' is one thing that you obviously do value.

Your name is mispelled to begin with.

Come again? It was spelled that way deliberately, as a fun way to re-write the word 'shark'. Even I, who am heavily dyslexic, can see it fits and understand the sound Shawk=shark from reading it.

Calling me 'Zwaq' was just a subtle way for you to show me you weren't about to be 'respectful' because you're too badass to be respectful to anybody.

I can get respect if I really want to, by f.x. fake being what I know the others will respect.
And seeing what others respect is very easy.

Spelling people's nicks correctly is a basic way of keeping communication open, it signals you're not hostile and so on.
People take their names very seriously, Seriously, and it's the one usually easiest way to give people a punch to their sense of being respected on a fundamental level.

I very rarely use this method myself: It's too easy, something kids do. Spelling someone's name incorrectly is openly disrespectful, it's a no-brainer.

But hey, to each his own as they say. It's okay with me, just don't expect me to respond. ;)

your mother did you a disservice.

This is what I mean, UKan! *yawn* ;)

I meant in as in prison.

Okay. I've done time several times, last I did 10 yrs and was released prematurely because I entered a psychopathy research program and signed up to stay in it after my release.

I caught a bug from sparkle and its not her dark days or spunky fakeness. Its not HIV either so throw that one away.

Haha. Yeah, I get those kinds of bugs too once in a while. - So what was it?

This change thing is hilarious. Who here really wants to change? I would do it all again if I could. I would rewind my life and play it all out the exact same way.

I'd say there're a few here who would be smart to want to change.
I'm not one of them, though. I think I'm exactly the way I should be. Maybe some minor details that have nothing to do with anything I have any influence on, but... no, I'm great the way I am.

There're a few things I would do differently if I had the chance. Things I could do nothing about because I didn't have the information provided to do so.

As most who know me a little bit can tell, I've not exactly bee dealt the best cards to begin with. On the other hand, if I wasn't who I am, I'd have been dead or completely broken by now. There's no two ways about the fact that I've gone through and survived shit that very, very few could do with the same strength and fairly great result.

  96. Let's see if this gets through...

    Kesu,

I consider my excursions as childish delights. Just remember children are the cruelest.

A very popular misconception in the mainstream of common people.
However, it is not true. The adults who have the ruthlessness of a child, the experience of an adult, and the IQ of a gifted person (you may draw the line between this and certain psychopaths), are the cruelest, by far. There's just not comparrison.
I understood why you got the association, Kesu, but you'll see why I'm right.

    Adam,

The classic, that is something an empath would say. If you need to abuse someone to feel superior then abuse them.

Actually it's a classic for Narcissists. It's at the very center of what drives a narcissist.
But narcissists do have emotions, they just only feel them for themselves, not for others.

    Anon 4:24,

are you serious zhawq? your profile has less than 1000 views!

I will not discuss these things with you, anon. We'll just have to wait and see how things go. I obviously haven't told all there is to say about it all, and I'm not going to.

you claim to be one of the more intelligent and more successful psychopaths

I claim to be one of the more intelligent, which I am. I have said nothing about being one of the more successful, and I haven't been. I've lost the small fortunes I've made, and I've done a lot of prison time, I would be an idiot if I claimed to be "one of the more successful". Those words are yours, not mine.

and yet you've been diagnosed and have spent a large portion of your life in prison. please explain to me how that makes sense.

No, I would have to tell you about my background in order for it to make sense, and that would be meaningless on a comment board.

However, I'll be doing something like that on my website/blog, and I assure you, it makes sense!!

I can tell you that what you think is a strength is a weakness if you don't use it wisely when predatory eyes are watching. Honesty is good for embracing who you are but in the eyes of the enemy it is weakness. Like someone standing naked.
Its all a game isn't it? Lower people do bring you down Zaqqy, you of all people should know. The dead weight of your people can bury you in concrete and steel. I don't suffer the burdens of the unfortunate. I've stayed free longer than you have because of it.

  133. Being human and having disdain for manipulation doesn't make you a hypocrite. For most people, the act of manipulation falls somewhere between an accident and a knee-jerk reaction--if and when they do it. For sociopaths, it's a purposeful act. Think of it like the difference between first degree murder and manslaughter.

Sociopaths represent its dictionary definition to a greater extent than any other class of people. Hypocrisy has nothing to do with lacking the conviction to adhere to your own beliefs. It's intentionally pretending to have beliefs and principles in order to garner favor from others. If he truly has disdain for manipulation, then manipulating by accident, instinct, or under duress, doesn't make him a hypocrite.

You, on the other hand... if you're a sociopath, you're either a full-fledged hypocrite, or you're on your way to jail.

    ReplyDelete
  148. SparkleBug you sooo belong here. She nailed it. And I mean that with a smile.

From "48 Laws of Power" - LAW 6

    Court Attention at all Cost

"Everything is judged by its appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful, more mysterious, than the bland and timid masses".

    . . . . I personally believe transformation and growth is possible-yet . . .

LAW 45- Preach the Need for Change, but Never Reform too much at Once

"Everyone understands the need for change in the abstract, but on the day-to-day level people are creatures of habit. Too much innovation is traumatic, and will lead to revolt. If you are new to a position of power, or an outsider trying to build a power base, make a show of respecting the old way of doing things. If change is necessary, make it feel like a gentle improvement on the past."

    I really believe that's true, ma'am... I hope that's true... Hell, I know that's true! ;)

About Kesu, he's a young dude, and he's asserting himself these days. We've all been there... well, most have been there and I've coached a few guys over the years and I always pick those who show promise. And Kesu, he's okay.

    UKan,

Haqz I think you are hilarious. You remind me of the jailhouse lawyers doing life.

Haha, I wonder if this is the same guy I know. He's not that great at hacking, but he's taking all the cases of everybody in jail - except for the psychopaths. He used to do our cases too, but he never won, so he eventually decided to never do psychopaths' cases. Talk about pathism, or somethin, huh? He was hilarious though! Man, it's gotta be him! Where'd ya meet him? You been doing time in Holloway? Nah, that's for women. Hmm... :D

I dropped off my wife at school. I got my xbox flashed so I can burn games instead of buy them.

That's what I wanna do with my xbox, but I'm not computer savvy and there ain't nobody around where I am at present who know how to do it, apparently. I don't play much. I don't play at all, actually. Ain't got da time... It used to not matter if I had to pay for it or not, but I've just had my bank account frozen and don't have access to the money I've got stored there. I pretty much have to start over, so I guess you can say I'm just not very wealthy right now, so getting my xbox flashed would be nice. Ah well, maybe next month - or somethin'. Ha.

I exercised in front of a mirror which encourages me to stay in shape. I smoked half a blunt of train wreck and played fight night champion. Made a millionare and drank it while reading zhawqs comment on my balcony off my phone and laughed at them.

See that's the kinda stories we wanna to hear. Successes, guys and gals! That's what it's all about in the end... (before and) after all!

Thanks, Zeric! You know, I actually like a lot of the things you write in your comments too.

That hypnotising and stunning one's prey can be achieved in, well, the blink of an eye is exquisite.
I'm told that my own eyes are dreamy or deadly - watching people fall into them, or recoil, is a pleasure.

Hey, why not leave a few comments at my website, by the article you refer to? There're a few others of my Readers who've done so already, and it might be interesting to see how many recognize or have had experiences with this. And I like to hear what people are thinking about it all.
I like to hear what you guys think of all the things I write. It stirs me on to keep writing, and to get better at it also.

I love when you call me 'dear'!... '^L^,

    Anon 7:24,

Hmmm. Why would the bug lady consider Zhawq a friend?

Why do you think Sparklebug considers me a friend? I mean, that's a big word to use about someone who's been debating at least 5 other board participants more than she has me, and in that regard what would you have her say? Should she accuse me of being rude and not interested in understanding her point of view?
What I'm saying is this: I'm one (don't know if there are others or, if there are, who they are) who has decided to not take outset in what I could criticize in her comments. There's always something you can criticize in anybody's comments, and it's very easy to do. I've chosen to address the positive things in what she's written, in part because I really do like it when someone who is obviously not AsPD or sociopathic. I think it's a good thing when a neurotypical person who's not our usual weak underling chooses to give us some open support.

You may argue that we don't need support, and you'll be right. But it's a nice thing to have nevertheless, and it's one of the things that I for one is working on getting more of (and it's also one of the things I have in common with M.E. who works with it too).

And finally I like to do what not everybody else do. When I see a whole board focusing only on the weaknesses or flaws in a person, I enjoy bringing forth their assets. And if you think someone who has flaws have no assets, you're certainly wrong. Everybody who have assets have flaws also!

    Haven,

I think Sparkle is trying to prove something to herself by 'playing with the bad boys'

Haven, baby, you think wrong. - But I understand why you think the way you do, so don't get me wrong.

What you've said about how you see Sparklebug is a good example that shows the difference between someone who's good at reading people and someone, like myself, who is brilliant at it, and feared and infamous because of it.
